SI Accelerator Mission Analyst

The MITRE Corporation•McLean, VA
•$171,000 - $256,000•Onsite

About The Position

The SI Accelerator Mission Analyst owns sponsor mission use cases from initial framing through defensible results, transition, and mission impact. The analyst uses the MPS SI accelerator to rapidly develop and prototype solutions, exercising expert judgment to frame sponsor questions, select and apply methods, direct SI workflows, lead verification and validation, and stand behind conclusions. The accelerator helps surface and assemble relevant tools, models, data, methods, and prior experience while revealing what is missing; it does not supply the answer. The role scales sponsor-facing accelerator use across projects and strategic programs. Each use case is expected to contribute reusable workflows, knowledge, and evidence. The analyst works alongside SI engineers, agent and MCP builders, and the LLM-Wiki team, and directly with sponsors and MPS project teams. The position is based in McLean, Virginia, with regular on-site collaboration and possible travel to sponsor sites. A minimum of three days per week on-site is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree and 8 or more years; or a Ph.D. and 5 or more years, in operations research, systems analysis, applied mathematics, economics, engineering, data science, or a related analytic field.
  • Demonstrated leadership of analytic studies from problem framing through sponsor-facing results, including selecting methods and defending conclusions.
  • Hands-on experience with modeling and simulation, quantitative analysis, or decision analysis, such as systems or mission analysis, optimization, socio-technical or system-of-systems modeling, or analysis of alternatives.
  • Working knowledge of verification and validation practices and communicating uncertainty and limitations to decision makers.
  • Practical experience using AI and LLM tools in analytic work, with sound judgment about where they help and where expert review is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including briefing senior government and MITRE leaders.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust determination; U.S. citizenship is required for eligibility.
  • Ability to work on-site a minimum of three days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more MPS mission areas: transportation, homeland security and emergency management, health, or government effectiveness and modernization.
  • Experience with agentic SI workflows, MCP-connected tools, or retrieval-augmented knowledge systems such as the LLM-Wiki.
  • Programming for analysis using Python, R, or equivalent, and familiarity with MITRE models and tool portfolios.
  • A record of converting prototypes or studies into funded sponsor work.
  • Participation in the SI accelerator, VibeLab Challenges, or comparable rapid-prototyping efforts.
  • An advanced degree in a quantitative or analytic discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more accelerator mission use cases end to end: scope sponsor problems, define supported decisions, and set success measures and evidence thresholds.
  • Translate mission questions into analytic workflows, including methods, models, data, and assumptions; direct accelerator engineers and agents in assembling, configuring, and running workflows.
  • Use the accelerator to identify available capabilities and gaps, such as missing data, models, methods, expertise, or validation sources, and drive plans to close important gaps.
  • Lead fit-for-purpose verification and validation; examine provenance and intermediate results; characterize uncertainty and limitations; and ensure conclusions are defensible to sponsors and MITRE leadership.
  • Serve as the primary analytic interface to sponsors and MPS project teams on the use case and accelerator application; brief findings, trade-offs, and recommendations to decision makers.
  • Package effective workflows, lessons, and evidence into reusable accelerator patterns and knowledge.
  • Shape follow-on work by turning successful use cases into sponsor-funded tasks and transition paths with center and project leads.
  • Mentor analysts and project staff in appropriate accelerator use, and support accelerator intake, office hours, and the contributor community.
