The Shuttle Driver (Jockey Services) is responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer to move finished goods and materials between Furmano’s and designated local outside storage locations, supporting yard jockeying and customer deliveries as needed. The role ensures accurate documentation, safe loading/unloading practices, and strong communication with internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL and several years of driving experience.
  • Ability to meet Furmano Foods Driver Qualification criteria for CDL drivers.
  • DOT physical, drug test, and driving test as required.
  • Ability to become OSHA tested and certified on forklift (or maintain current certification if already qualified).
  • Basic computer skills; ability to complete transactions in a warehouse management system (WMS).

Responsibilities

  • Operate a tractor-trailer safely and efficiently for shuttle runs between Furmano’s and local outside storage locations.
  • Perform yard jockeying as needed, including trailer moves and positioning to support shipping/receiving flow.
  • Load and unload pallets by hand as required; safely operate forklift and hand jack as assigned.
  • Complete all required paperwork and/or electronic transactions in a timely and accurate manner (including WMS transactions).
  • Communicate effectively with external vendors and internal stakeholders regarding schedules, issues, and exceptions.
  • Report and verify damages and short counts; document discrepancies per process and escalate promptly.
  • Perform customer deliveries as needed, following assigned routing and customer requirements.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections (tractor, trailer, and material handling equipment as applicable) and report defects or concerns to Maintenance/mechanics.
  • Maintain dependable attendance; report to work on time and ready to perform assigned duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with role scope and capability.
  • Follow all Furmano’s safety rules and safe work practices; stop work and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain DOT compliance, including required physicals, drug/alcohol testing, and adherence to applicable driving regulations.
  • Operate equipment in a manner that protects people, product quality, and property, practice stewardship of vehicles and trailers.
  • Support food safety and sanitation expectations while on Furmano’s property and at outside storage locations.
