About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shred Truck Equipment Technician - Level I (STET I) to join our team. This is a critical maintenance role responsible for assisting the Fleet Manager & CEO with all field operations, including our team of truck drivers and retail staff. The ideal candidate is a versatile and flexible hands-on self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment, combining strategic oversight with practical, in-the-field expertise. You will be directly responsible for fleet maintenance, assisting with inventory management, co-managing all fleet maintenance schedules and coordination of vendors and third party help, hands-on truck maintenance to ensure our operations run smoothly, efficiently, and safely, assisting the Drivers when needed for repairs in the shop or on occasion in the field, acting as a last resort backup driver or drop off collection facility rep when staffing demands it, assisting the drivers with route changes on the fly, assisting senior management with expediting and administrative operational duties on occasion, and maintaining a clean shop environment. This position requires a unique blend of technical mechanical skill, logistical planning, and strong leadership capabilities. You will manage the systems and maintenance programs and have to prioritize the current needs on any given day, priorities change dynamically, ensuring that all maintenance programs are completed on time and that all drivers are trained, motivated, and supported.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Maintenance & Operations or logistics role, with at least 3 years in a Mechanical position.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a commercial route-based driving role preferred.
  • Proven experience in fleet management and hands-on maintenance of commercial vehicles (diesel engine experience is highly preferred).
  • Experience managing Maintenance in a related field (e.g., transportation, logistics, retail).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in logistics and fleet management software.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting and financial management.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus. Must be able to Obtain a Class B CDL within 1 year of hire date.
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Brake Inspection Certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and be involved with the daily and weekly coordination of all daily field activities, including driver dispatches, route planning, retail store operations, maintenance planning, emergency repairs, scheduling and inventory management to ensure seamless execution and optimal efficiency.
  • Assist senior management with the Development and implementation of operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity, quality of service, and profitability in regard to maintenance and operations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for both the transportation and retail divisions, such as on-time delivery rates, fuel efficiency, sales targets, maintenance program targets, and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for escalating mechanical issues, providing swift and effective solutions to minimize disruption.
  • Work closely with the Drivers and the Dispatch Center as a liaison to advocate for route and service efficiencies. Help the dispatch center schedule and plan for maintenance.
  • Help Manage the entire lifecycle of the company's vehicle fleet, from procurement and outfitting to disposal.
  • Manage and oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule to ensure vehicle reliability, safety, and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Track all fleet-related expenses, including fuel, maintenance, and repairs, to manage the budget effectively and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain meticulous records for all vehicles, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, and registration details.
  • Provide assistance to leadership, mentorship, and support to the Driver Supervisor and Retail Supervisor, empowering them to manage their respective teams effectively.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process for all positions within the Arctic Shred Operations division.
  • Assist with Conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Personally perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and hands-on repairs for a range of mechanical and electrical issues on our fleet of commercial trucks.
  • Conduct and oversee preventative maintenance tasks, including oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations, both as a scheduled activity and as needed.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring the maintenance workshop is well-organized and properly supplied.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to drivers on pre-trip inspections and basic vehicle upkeep.
  • Lead and assist with daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning schedules.
  • Most truck maintenance will occur in our maintenance bays; on occasion the repairs or diagnostics will require mobile maintenance in the field.
