About The Position

The certified nursing assistant position provides quality nursing care to residents; reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responds to inquiries or requests for information; and assists the immediate supervisor with tasks to support department operations. Base wage: $19.70 - 22.10/hour 6am - 2pm.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
CNA Certification from the State of Wisconsin
Knowledge of English language and grammar.
Proof of job focused competencies

Responsibilities

Responsible for giving at least the minimum number of baths/showers to residents as scheduled on assigned unit.
In event of absence, other than approved vacation time, the bath aide is responsible for ensuring that all missed baths have been given. This may entail that employee work on an unscheduled day to make up those baths.
Documentation on bath/shower in electronic health record, such as Point Click Care.
Communicate any resident skin issues with QA Nurse and/or DON.
Bathe all body parts, clean/trim fingernails and toenails.
Shampoo hair and trim facial hair on female residents.
Shampoo hair and trim facial hair on male residents.
Chemicals will be kept locked up when unattended.
Assist residents with eating when not giving baths.
Assist on the floor when baths are completed.
May be required to document and/or report information regarding residents as instructed.
Assures personal and staff compliance to all State and Federal requirements including but not limited to blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control and fire safety.
Assures personal and staff compliance to resident's rights.
Knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for residents, and provides support to the residents according to their care plan.
Contributes to the care planning process by providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information and observations of the resident's needs and preferences.
Attends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, catheter care, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, peri-care, transferring, positioning, re-positioning, ambulation, range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individuals care requirements.
Assists in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment.
Reports environmental deficiencies to maintenance, such as call light or equipment problems
Observes residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report these changes to appropriate charge nurse.
Provides care that maintains each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears and other damage by changing incontinent resident, turning, repositioning and bathing in a timely manner.
Answers residents call lights promptly and courteously.
Performs various task assigned by the charge nurse, including intake/output recording, vitals, weighing residents, and collecting specimens.
Lifts, moves and transports residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
Assists and escorts residents for appointments such as at the beauty shop, activities, and doctor appointments.
Practices careful and efficient use of supplies and linen and follows established charge procedures for charge items.
Completes documentation on cares provided throughout shift.
Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials.
Completes end of shift rounds and provides shift report to incoming shift.
Provides individualized attention, which encourages each resident's ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being.
Maintains the comfort and safety, privacy, and dignity of residents in the delivery of services to them.
Interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
Fully understands all aspects of resident's rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse (from staff, other residents, visitors and family).
Responsible for promptly reporting to the charge nurse or administrative staff of incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of resident rights.
Protects the personal belongings of each resident, including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing and memorabilia.
Promptly reports missing or broken items to charge nurse or social services.
Assists with orienting resident and their families to the nursing home on admission and to the unit where transfers occur.
Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
Promotes a homelike environment for the residents.
Promotes teamwork by showing dignity and respect to peers, including peers of other departments.
Promotes teamwork by working scheduled shifts at scheduled times.
Willingness to train new employees in a pleasant and respectable manner.
Willingness to complete work schedule when assigned and where assigned.
Willingness to be a part of problem-solving and QAPI groups.
Attends and participates in all mandatory in-services, unless prior arrangements are made and approval is received.
Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Completes work within authorized time to assure compliance with departmental, state, and federal regulations and standards.
