About The Position

The show set design intern will assist in the development of compelling entertainment experiences worldwide by utilizing various drawing and digital modeling techniques to detail overall concepts and construction methods. The candidate will support the creative team in generating ideas and design studies through coordinated drawings, digital models, and conceptual artwork. These will integrate scenic elements into the overall environment and maintain the design intent of the show for bidding, construction, production, and installation purposes. The intern will learn about the conceptual iteration and documentation process for Universal's immersive theme park attractions and gain hands-on experience with the project team, including exposure to relevant design disciplines and park operations partners. A portfolio of work examples is required; if available, include a web address with your resume.

Requirements

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Senior or above.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required.
  • A transcript is required upon application.
  • Proficiency in Drafting, 3D modeling, Rendering, Sketching, Illustration, Presentations.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Must have a graduation date later than April 2027.
  • This internship will be an in-person experience, based in our Orlando offices.
  • Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred majors include: Themed Entertainment, Architecture, Theatre Design, Scenic Design, Production Design, Interior Design, or similar.
  • Preferred knowledge of 3ds Max, Maya, Sketchup, Unreal, Blender, Lumion, Enscape, TwinMotion software (including experience with interoperability between programs).
  • Relevant upper-level or graduate coursework in Themed Entertainment, Architecture, Set Design, Illustration, Digital Design, Game Design.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in articulating creative intent through design studies, 2D drawings, and 3D models that communicate the details and coordination of the various show, facility, and technical elements of an attraction or experience (such as scenery/set walls, architecture, ride system, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, A/V, and lighting).
  • Develop positive and productive relationships with project partners based on effective communication, trust, and teamwork as an integral part of the attraction development process.
