As a Shovel Operator Supervisor, you'll be responsible for leading a team of shovel operators, ensuring commercial properties are serviced safely, efficiently, and according to contract specifications. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires excellent communication, quick decision-making, and a commitment to safety and exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid New York State Driver's License (clean driving record preferred)
  • Previous experience in snow removal, landscaping, or property maintenance preferred
  • Previous leadership or crew supervision experience is a plus
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold, snowy, and icy conditions for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to respond promptly to snow events
  • Must be able to use a tablet for service documentation and communication
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to lead with professionalism and integrity

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of shovel operators during snow and ice events.
  • Coordinate and assign routes to ensure all commercial properties are serviced efficiently and on time.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure work is completed according to company standards and contract requirements.
  • Perform snow and ice removal alongside your crew using shovels, snow blowers, and other snow removal equipment as needed.
  • Apply de-icing materials to sidewalks, walkways, stairs, ramps, and entrances.
  • Respond to snow dispatches within 30 minutes of being contacted.
  • Work early mornings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays during snow events.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety meetings and equipment inspections.
  • Ensure shovels and any other necessary snow removal equipment are maintained and ready for operation before and after every storm.
  • Maintain communication with management throughout each snow event and provide updates on route progress and any issues encountered.
  • Train, mentor, and support team members while promoting a positive, safety-focused work environment.
  • Ensure accurate service documentation using a smartphone and verify crew members complete required service logs.
  • Report equipment issues, property concerns, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, property maintenance, or other seasonal duties as assigned.
  • Enforce all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
