About The Position

This role is responsible for completing Field Service department jobs, which include general labor, cleaning, welding, machining, and mechanical work. The technician will plan, organize, and facilitate jobs, interpret prints, audit equipment for potential repairs, and troubleshoot issues. They will also create and manage projects to completion, including all related paperwork and service reports. Effective communication with other employees, including training, is essential. The role requires the safe use of rigging and lifting equipment and clear communication with Leads and supervisors. Extensive travel may be required, and the technician must maintain the highest standards of workmanship.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Able to write, speak and understand English.
  • Knowledge in various areas, including gearings, bearings, seals, bushings and hydraulics.
  • General mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiar with layout, fit-up and fabrication with little to no supervision.
  • Understand and utilize tools for set up and layout work.
  • Familiar with hand and automatic torches, MIG, TIG and Brazing.
  • Familiar with D.T., including U.T. and M.T.
  • Able to perform light machining, utilizing drills, taps, etc.
  • Proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to welding.
  • Possess appropriate tools per the Welder Tool List.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school degree or certification.
  • Welding work on shovels and draglines.
  • Familiar with hand and automatic torches, MIG, TIG and Brazing.
  • Familiar with D.T., including U.T. and M.T.
  • Able to perform light machining, utilizing drills, taps, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Complete jobs, as assigned to the Field Service department, including general labor, cleaning, welding, machining and mechanical work.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate jobs, as assigned, including print reading and interpretation.
  • Audit equipment for potential repairs.
  • Troubleshoot jobs and equipment needed to complete jobs.
  • Create and facilitate projects to completion, including any related paperwork or service reports.
  • Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary.
  • Safely use rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Communicate clearly with other Leads and supervisors involved in projects.

  • Maintain the highest standards in regards to quality of workmanship.
  • Assist in special projects as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls, complete service reports and maintain records.
  • Participate and occasionally lead safety meetings.
  • Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatcher.
