About The Position

Gallaudet University, a bilingual, diverse, and multicultural institution dedicated to the advancement of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, operates the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center. This center includes exemplary elementary and secondary education programs and national outreach initiatives. The Short-Term Substitute Teacher position is a temporary role to cover classes for absent teachers, implementing daily lesson plans, managing classroom behavior to ensure a safe learning environment, adhering to school policies, and communicating with school personnel as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of college/university coursework
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting or child care/camp setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and/or adolescent needs
  • Ability to provide/implement appropriate instructional activities for secondary school students
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language required
  • Up-to-date Resume
  • Must undergo and pay for a background investigation and be cleared before starting first day on the job.
  • Background Check and SARP must be in good standing
