About The Position

We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing precious metals producer with seven wholly-owned operations. Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal. Coeur Alaska is an integral part of the local community and actively supports education and workforce development programs, environmental stewardship efforts, arts and culture, and local nonprofit agencies through monetary investments, in-kind support, and employee volunteerism. Approximately 400 miners, mechanics, engineers, operators, geologists, environmental technicians, exploration, and business leaders operate the Kensington mine. About the Job: The Senior Mine Engineer will report to the Mine Engineering Superintendent and is responsible for supervising the development of weekly mine plans, stope drill and blast packages, plan reconciliations, backfill designs, and operations support. The Senior Mine Engineer will also assist in the yearly reserve and budget creation. There are several distinct ore bodies on the property which are steep, to sub-vertical dipping series of complex stacked shear veins in the host Diorite, containing quartz filled ore structures. The schedule for this position is 15 days on at the remote mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 13 days off.

Requirements

  • B.S in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Previous supervision of technical staff.
  • Knowledge of planning, sequencing, ventilation, rock mechanics, long hole drill and blast design, stope reconciliations, paste backfill, etc.
  • The ability to follow complex written and oral instructions, with sound knowledge of mining methods, costs, and productivity.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are critical to this position.

Nice To Haves

  • 8-10 years of progressive mine engineering experience, underground hard rock mining environment.
  • Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, and Microsoft Office computer software greatly desired.
  • Preference given to Alaska residents.

Responsibilities

  • Stopwork for safety concerns and abide by safety best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise the Drill Blast Engineers and Survey Dept. that provides engineering technical support to mine operations and other groups as required.
  • Provide oversight for ventilation, paste backfill, site water balance, drill and blast design, ground support, surface stockpile, and waste dump management.
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers through strong and inclusive leadership.
  • Conceive and implement Business Improvement initiatives.
  • Reporting activities: plan compliance, tracking various key activities including drilling, mucking, blasting, filling, and reconciliations.
  • Regular coordination with Management, Operations, Geology, and Survey groups to implement the weekly and monthly plan.
  • Assist with complex projects, including estimation of capital and operating costs, mine infrastructure changes, strategic planning, reserve estimation, and budget creation.
