About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt, on-call position where applicants must be prepared to report to work within the hour of receiving notification. This position is responsible for coordinating the operation and maintenance of a Tribal Transfer Station.

Requirements

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
Requires knowledge of or ability to learn Tribal and Federal regulations as they pertain to solid waste management and recycling; Tribal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (TOSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Energy (DOE).
Requires knowledge of or ability to learn transfer station procedures and operation.
Requires knowledge of or ability to learn waste reduction, recycling, and moderate risk household waste.
Requires sufficient language skills to document transfer station activity and prepare routine reports.
Requires sufficient human relation skills to maintain positive work relationships with internal customers and vendors, and to work as part of a team.
Requires the ability to work outdoors engaged in work of primarily an active nature.
Requires the ability to maintain cardiovascular fitness to engage in active physical labor.
Requires ability to stand for long periods of time.
Requires ambulatory ability to sit, walk to campus locations, and operate vehicles and equipment.
Requires the ability to lift, carry and move medium to heavy weight materials up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis; up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
Requires visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, to drive a vehicle, and to observe work processes.
Requires the ability to use hearing for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to provide staff training sessions, and to hear sound prompts from equipment.
Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination, arm hand dexterity and visual acuity read numbers and words.
Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
Requires the ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Requires a CPR/First Aid card or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain through employment.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
If applicable, pre-employment background clearances must be maintained throughout employment.

Coordinating the operation and maintenance of a Tribal Transfer Station.
Documenting transfer station activity and preparing routine reports.
Interpreting and enforcing transfer station regulations.
Distinguishing between and separating recycling materials from non-recyclables.
Writing and maintaining accurate maintenance records for the transfer station operations.
Representing the program professionally with compassion and sensitivity with clientele from diverse populations.
Sorting material and separating solid waste from recyclable materials and disposing of using proper techniques.
Assisting with completing project deadlines.
Working independently with minimal supervision.
Communicating effectively in person, via telephone, email and in written format.

Effectively executing and following oral and written instructions.
Attending training as needed.
Establishing and maintaining working relationships with employees, Tribal Officials and the general public.
