About The Position

Southland Holdings is seeking an experienced Shop Welder/Fabricator for our Burleson, TX Facility. This role involves welding and assembling metal components to repair construction and support equipment, fabricating new or replacement parts, and working with various welding units and equipment. The position requires the ability to read fabrication drawings, follow safety procedures, and work effectively in a team environment. The welder will also be responsible for preparing workpieces, repairing welds, and assembling components using hand and power tools. Additionally, they may be required to change hoses, fittings, and air valves, and maintain a clean work area.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Stick (ARC) and wire (MIG) welding.
  • Experience in pipe and beam fabrication and fitting.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment Weld Test.
  • Understanding and following basic welding safety procedures.
  • Good work ethic and ability to adjust to change.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain a schedule.
  • Availability to work overtime.
  • Ability to stand, squat, stoop, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Must pass post-offer drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified welding certificates preferred.
  • Experience with heavy equipment.
  • Experience with custom fabrication.
  • Valid driver's license with clean MVR.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Welding pipe, templates, trench boxes, steel piles, and welding-related equipment.
  • Welding and assembling metal components to repair construction and support equipment.
  • Reading and understanding fabrication drawings and specifications.
  • Attending work on schedule without excessive absenteeism.
  • Working with crews as directed when not welding.
  • Following all safe work practices.
  • Obtaining parts and generating material lists.
  • Accessing areas to be welded by climbing ladders.
  • Using a disc grinder to smooth, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
  • Operating ARC and MIG welding units and equipment.
  • Maintaining arc and speed of movement for specified penetration of structural welding processes.
  • Welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead planes (all-position welding).
  • Examining existing welds for bead size and quality specifications.
  • Preparation of work pieces by grinding or cutting.
  • Repairing improperly welded pieces and filling holes.
  • Positioning and clamping work pieces or assembling them in a jig fixture.
  • Fabricating new or replacement parts for equipment and structural applications.
  • Assembling component parts using hand and small power tools.
  • Changing hoses, fittings, air valves, etc., as needed.
  • Cleaning up the work area daily.
