About The Position

The Shop Technician plays a vital role in the efficient operation of our service shop by managing workflow and performing maintenance and repairs on industrial battery and charger systems. This position is responsible for diagnosing faults, conducting preventative maintenance, and ensuring all equipment, particularly batteries and chargers, are operating at peak performance. This position supports the reliability of material handling equipment and contributes to overall customer satisfaction through high-quality service. This role reports directly to the Service Manager and does not have any direct reports.

Requirements

  • High School or GED Diploma required.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen, including random drug screens, and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess a working knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical/electronic theory.
  • Cultivate strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in organizing his/her own work and work independently, with limited supervision.
  • Capable of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs, and across remote offices.
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas (both written and verbal) to both internal and external customers and to listen effectively to customer needs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong workplace relationships with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments toward the greater good of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
  • Intermittent travel required within designated territory, home most nights, some overnight travel required.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer an Associate Degree from an approved two-year college or university or very strong equivalent experience.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus but not required.
  • Previous forklift or similar equipment use a plus.
  • Experience in material handling environment is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow all safety protocols, ensure others follow safety requirements in the warehouse at all times, and complete safety training as required.
  • Utilize all personal protective equipment (PPE) as instructed or as required by manufacturer recommendations.
  • Perform battery repairs to include acid adjustments, load tests, cell replacements, cable repairs, connector, contact tips, washes, and painting.
  • Train on the electrical operation of SCR, ferroresonant transformer, high frequency charging technologies, and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Pick-up and deliver products, ensuring adherence to all traffic laws, safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate, collect, band, and ship scrap batteries.
  • Maintain and complete administrative requirements with scrap materials, onsite chemicals, or shipping. May include Bill of Lading (BOL), invoices, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), or other documents.
  • Maintain company vehicles that are used on job assignments.
  • Clean and maintain an orderly warehouse, assist with inventory management, and complete minor facility repairs as needed.
  • Assist Field Service Technicians on preventative maintenance (PMs).
  • Occasionally, travel to other branches or job sites to assist with product installations, removal, or repairs (some overnight travel required).
  • Cultivate lasting, trust-based relationships with customers to drive satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
