About The Position

The AllMetal Recycling, a division of Scrap Management Industries is seeking a Shop Supervisor for our state-of-the-art facility in Wichita, Kansas. The Shop Supervisor supports the Shop Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the diesel repair facility. This working supervisor performs hands-on maintenance, coordinates technicians and shop staff, monitors workflow and repair quality, and helps ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on, heavy duty diesel repair experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy-duty diesel engines, trucks, and related fleet equipment.
  • Specific diagnostic knowledge of Cummins, Paccar, Cat, Allison, and Eaton.
  • Computer literate and able to navigate and use Microsoft Office products
  • Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, vendors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
  • Good customer service skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose complex faults using specialized software for Cummins, Paccar, and Caterpillar engines.
  • Overhaul heavy-duty transmissions including Allison automatics and Eaton Fuller manuals.
  • Execute bumper-to-bumper repairs on all fleet equipment and trucks.
  • Assign daily repair orders to technicians based on their specific strengths.
  • Lead by example on the shop floor by maintaining high efficiency.
  • Guide apprentice mechanics through difficult engine and drivetrain teardowns.
  • Review technician labor times to maximize shop productivity.
  • Road-test vehicles when required by the repair and authorized by company procedures before releasing them for pickup.
  • Verify parts ordering accuracy with the parts personnel.
  • Maintain shop equipment including lifts, lift devices, pumps, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Explain technical failures clearly to the technician that will be performing the repairs.
  • Provide accurate repair time frames
  • Minimize fleet downtime through workflow prioritizing.
  • Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and required protocols, including the proper selection, use, and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Adhere to all local, state, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
