About The Position

The Shop Specialist is responsible for training Prefab team members. The Shop Specialist ensures that work is properly completed within Tuff Shed quality, productivity, and safety specifications. In addition, the Shop Specialist provides work direction for all new hire Prefab team members. The following may not be a complete list of essential duties: Assists Production Foreman in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Administers forklift certification training and tests. Prevents potential safety issues by training and mentoring all Prefab team members during and after the certification process. Verifies that all building components are properly prepared. Ensures that production lines are stocked and organized prior to the start of the next shift. Ensure that all jobs are completed, within Tuff Shed’s quality and accuracy standards. Training: Oversees the work of trainee, checks on the work quality, assisting with any product related problems or difficulties; refers problems of a non-routine nature to the PF or management team. Coordinates and closely monitors new employee’s assignments and work hours accordingly. Work with PF and PM to ensure workload and on-duty hours fall in line with company standards during the first 90 days of new hire employment. Assists employees in resolving work-related problems, always informing PF and/or PM of these situations accordingly. Effectively creates and leads a positive culture of growth and learning opportunities. Provides feedback regarding new employee progress, employee engagement, support needs from management, and any other production related concerns. PACK Accuracy: Assists the Production Foreman to ensure that certified employees inspect every building prior to the end of the shift. Inspections shall result in complete and accurate PACKs and be documented on the PACK Checklist. Along with Production Foreman, verifies products are stacked in a manner ready for loading &/or assembly. Minimal unstacking or restacking shall be necessary to safely secure the load for transport. Participates in root cause analysis of deficiencies in production stations; performs re-certification as needed and discusses outcomes with PF and Prefab team daily as need to eliminate mistakes. Fabricates as needed: Produces work in any station as needed to overcome staffing shortages and/or excessive daily workloads. Produces work in any station as needed when all other duties have been fulfilled.

Requirements

  • Certified on all prefab stations.
  • Aptitude and desire to train and develop others.
  • Working safely and keeping others safe in an industrial type setting.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and terminology.
  • Ability to use standard construction hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read (or learn to read) cut sheets, product drawings, engineered plans and truss plans.
  • An understanding of work optimization concepts and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Extremely high standards related to quality in workmanship.
  • Ability to communicate clear expectations.
  • Ability to read, write and understand instructions given orally, in writing and/or diagram form.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, managers, business partners, suppliers, customers, and the general public.
