About The Position

The Shop Service Technician II - Cat Rentals is responsible for conducting all assigned work in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable safety, environmental, and contamination control policies, procedures, and regulations, and wearing proper personal protective equipment. This role involves attending and successfully completing required technician training classes and maintaining a high awareness of applicable technical changes in the industry. The technician will maintain a necessary set of tools for diagnosing, disassembling, and assembling components to manufacturer’s specifications. Key duties include diagnosing and performing designated repairs on customer or company-owned equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs. The position requires working in a neat and orderly fashion, constantly seeking improvements in work methods, work area, and safety standards. The technician will inspect components to maximize parts reuse for cost control and complete required documentation using appropriate software to record repairs and labor times. They will monitor job expenses against repair estimates, inform the supervisor of any cost overruns before job completion, and approach work positively, maintaining conduct supportive of the team. This role contributes to team efforts by accomplishing tasks on time while maintaining safety and quality expectations, and may involve training or mentoring others. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Formal Education High School diploma or GED
  • Experience 3-4 years
  • Completed all required training curriculum to be designated a Tech II.
  • Able to easily and effectively comprehend written material and communicate orally and in writing with employees and customers.
  • Job requires complex problem solving ability with little guidance. Independent research and analysis are sometimes required to develop solutions.
  • Job has no subordinates / no supervisory responsibility (may work independently or as a member of a team)

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and relevant Dealer software programs.
  • Job requirements frequently change requiring re-training once or more per year.
  • Job requires some creativity to generate solutions or improve effectiveness within well-established boundaries.
  • Job is not normally monitored, but overall objectives are clearly defined. Use of discretion in how the work is done, setting priorities and decision making is encouraged. More emphasis is placed on achieving the desired outcome, not on controlling the process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains necessary set of tools required for job performance to diagnose, disassemble and assemble components to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Diagnose and perform designated repairs on customer or company owned equipment including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs
  • Works in a neat and orderly fashion, constantly looking for ways of improving the methods of work, work area, and safety standards.
  • Inspects components to ensure maximum parts are being reused to control repair costs. Completes required documentation utilizing appropriate software to document repairs performed on equipment, and accounting for repair times.
  • Monitors job expenses versus repair estimates and ensures that the supervisor is aware of any cost over run, prior to the job being completed.
  • Approaches work in a positive manner and maintains conduct that is supportive of the work Team. Contributes to Team efforts by accomplishing tasks on time while maintaining safety and quality expectations. Trains and/or mentors others in department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
