About The Position

This is a full-time, 1st shift Heavy Equipment Mechanic position available at HOLT CAT's Georgetown, Texas location. The hours of the position are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. This mechanic position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. The technician can work independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieves departmental goals. This is a mid-level position, generally requiring more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job-relevant knowledge/skills. A Level III Technician has moderate knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Level III Technicians perform a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; are indirectly supervised and self-starting; and often a team member on a large project. The incumbent in this position is expected to model HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes, demonstrate alignment with the company's vision, values, and mission, collaborate with key internal/external resources, and participate in ongoing self-development.

Requirements

  • Four or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
  • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Mentors and helps train other technicians
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
  • Performs other duties as assigned
