About The Position
Sterling Commercial Roofing, a Tecta America company, is seeking a full-time Shop Mechanic for its Sterling, Illinois location. The role maintains and repairs commercial roofing equipment, vehicles, facility equipment, and heavy equipment. Duties also include scheduling routine maintenance, performing small-engine and basic equipment repairs, maintaining repair records and parts inventory, and keeping the work area clean and secure. The position pays $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience.
Requirements
- Experience with fleet maintenance and service scheduling.
- Small-engine repair and maintenance experience.
- Automotive repair and maintenance experience.
- Basic heavy-equipment repair and maintenance experience.
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and policy documents, and to converse comfortably with associates.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Creative problem-solving ability.
Nice To Haves
- Certification from a vocational or trade school.
- Diesel engine repair and maintenance experience.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic system experience.
- Electronic capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and predictive basic maintenance on commercial roofing equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Perform small electronic repairs.
- Diagnose mechanical problems with equipment and complete repairs.
- Perform small-engine repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment as needed.
- Complete maintenance and repair logs.
- Communicate work status to the manager.
- Maintain and secure work tools.
- Keep the work area clean and maintained.
- Monitor inventory and order parts as needed.
- Schedule routine maintenance.
