About The Position

The position establishes, directs and coordinates the management of Shop Supervisors, Mechanics, Fuel Technicians, Parts, Office Staff, yard activities and the Facilities Environmental Management System. The Shop Manager will oversee day-to-day activities and operations of a 24/7 truck maintenance facility.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with office equipment, utilizing computers for majority of tasks.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Knowledge of TMT and TMW.
  • Expert user of vendor applications & synergize.
  • Capable of hearing, with or without correction, sufficiently to perceive normal speaking levels and receive detailed information through oral communication in order to facilitate meetings and work with internal customers and stakeholders by telephone and in person.
  • Position may involve kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 25 pounds.
  • Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends, holidays, and various shifts (to include evening and night shifts) as necessary.
  • Capable of sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and working with computer equipment.
  • Capable of speaking, writing, and reading English well and possessing a good command of the language so that various types of communications may be conducted in English with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
  • Capable of visual acuity, with or without correction, sufficient to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer terminal, and read extensively.
  • 4 year degree in a specified field or business-related field and commensurate work-related experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience running a shop or shift.
  • Transportation industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Broad understanding of transportation processes and standards.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • The ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and/or delays.
  • Ability to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances.
  • Ability to handle incoming requests for assistance via phone and in person while working on other tasks.
  • Ability to remain professional in light of challenging situations that may occur in the location.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and supervising the performance of shop technicians in the diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance of tractor, trailers, and reefers.
  • Reinforcing and demonstrating C.R. England’s core values and supporting C.R. England‘s proassociate philosophy.
  • Maintaining an open line of communication with the lines of business in order to maximize equipment availability.
  • Monitoring vehicle service failure history, identifying trends and developing action plans to prevent failures.
  • Managing the P&L, including parts inventory/cycle counting, approval of invoices, staffing, and managing overtime.
  • Overseeing personnel needs: selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees.
  • Cultivating and maintaining productive supplier relationships.
  • Managing all vendor repairs.
  • Responsible for employee schedules and processing accurate payroll.
  • Dealing with multiple drivers and vendors at once.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Preventive Maintenance Inspection Program.
  • Managing the maintenance software program.
  • Maintaining the facility’s environmental policy.
  • Conflict Resolution.
  • Handling urgent situations in a professional manner.
  • Directing and controlling vehicle maintenance repairs and shop overhead costs.
  • Maintaining fueling facilities at various locations.
  • Approving all expenditures.
  • Managing parts and National purchasing programs.
  • Supporting the business with trailer inventories.
  • Assisting and supporting Safety departments.
  • Ensuring loaded product integrity / Smithfield’s Food safety program (Dedicated sites only).
  • Overseeing a supporting vendor base at Smithfield’s outer facilities (Dedicated sites only).
  • Maintaining 45,000 gallons of fuel and fuel inventories (Dedicated sites only).
  • Keeping company leadership informed of project priorities and any issues that may require their attention.
  • Working with other department leaders to establish goals, align priorities, and define departmental processes.
  • Practicing and observing safety rules and regulations and encouraging others to do so at all times.
