Shop Laborer
About The Position
The Laborer position is an entry level position, with all work being completed under the direct supervision of the Shop Supervisor. This role requires adherence to all company safety and quality requirements, and the ability to follow directions for task completion. The position involves mastering tasks related to culvert manufacturing or steel fabrication, including accurate tape measure reading and gaining operational experience on relevant equipment. Responsibilities also include the proper use and care of tools and equipment, maintaining a clean work area, and understanding and applying safety practices outlined in the TrueNorth Steel Safety Manual. The role requires prompt and dependable attendance, willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed, and performing other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand a tape measure and do simple arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, feet, inches, and fractions.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to understand instructions, written and oral.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions and the trait of being dependable and trustworthy.
- Ability to be truthful and be seen as credible in the workplace.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other people and subordinate personal interests in order to achieve a common goal.

Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
- Understand and follow all reasonable directions provided by the Supervisor, or designated mentor, regarding completion of tasks in written or verbal format.
- Master, within the prescribed probationary period, tasks associated with the applicable operational area of culvert manufacturing or steel fabrication. Tape measure reading to 1/16”.
- Gain operational experience, within the prescribed probationary period, on equipment associated with the applicable operational area of culvert manufacturing or steel fabrication.
- Operate general hand tools and equipment as required.
- Responsible for the proper use and care of hand tools and equipment.
- Responsible for keeping work areas clean, orderly, and free of hazards.
- Understand the safe practices outlined in the TrueNorth Steel Safety Manual, utilize and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and to bring any and all unsafe conditions to the immediate attention of the Supervisor.
- Willing to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
- Prompt and dependable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
