About The Position

TruGreen Metal is a mobile scrap metal recycling company that brings the recycling facility to the customer. Since 2015, TruGreen has served thousands of customers across Saskatchewan, Alberta, Western Manitoba, and Northern BC, recycling over 950 million pounds of steel products. The company prides itself on customer service and a passionate, professional, and resourceful team. This role is for a reliable and hardworking Shop Hand to support operations in the heavy equipment shop and scrap metal yard in Olds, Alberta. It is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, with potential weekend work. This role is ideal for someone seeking hands-on experience as a heavy equipment mechanic apprentice, assisting with daily operations, general maintenance, cleaning, organizing, and supporting tradespeople.

Requirements

  • Welding experience is required.
  • Mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties.
  • Physical fitness is required with the ability to lift 50lbs or more, climb ladders, walk long distances, frequent bending and picking up objects off the ground.
  • Ability to follow instructions and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Take pride and accountability in your work.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Excellent communicator who works best in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to change and use problem-solving skills while using good judgment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Technically inclined.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Shop Hand is considered an asset.
  • Enrollment as an Apprentice in the Heavy Equipment Mechanic program is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic shop maintenance and cleaning tasks around the shop and yard, including cleaning wash bays and pressure washing bins.
  • Assist with organizing tools, inventory, and general shop upkeep.
  • Clean work areas and dispose of scrap materials while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Support tradespeople or technicians with setup, prep work, and manual tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including errands or minor repairs.
