Shop Foreman/ Lead Service Technician
About The Position
The Shop Foreman/Lead Service Technician is responsible for leading by example in performing complex diagnostics, advanced electrical troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs on heavy trucks. This role involves training and mentoring apprentice technicians, ensuring quality control through inspections and road tests, and providing technical support to the team. The Shop Foreman also plays a key role in customer service coordination by reviewing work requests, advising on necessary maintenance, and ensuring accurate documentation of repairs. Additionally, this position leads safety initiatives through monthly toolbox meetings.
Requirements
- 5+ years of advanced heavy truck/automotive repair experience, with a proven track record of fixing vehicles right the first time.
- Cummins, Paccar, Eaton type training and knowledge preferred.
- Prior experience as a team lead or management helpful.
- ASE Master Technician certification or equivalent OEM manufacturer training is required.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred) with a clean driving record.
- Can pass a drug test.

Responsibilities
- Act as the primary on-the-floor trainer for apprentice technicians, guiding them through complex diagnostic and repair procedures.
- Help with daily shop floor operations.
- Inspect and road-test completed vehicles to verify the accuracy of repairs before final sign-off.
- Help technicians diagnose stubborn failures and recommend efficient, correct repair pathways.
- Perform complex diagnostics, advanced electrical troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs.
- Stay updated on product changes, technical service bulletins (TSBs), and warranty updates, and disseminate this information to the team.
- Lead monthly "toolbox meetings" to discuss safety compliance, new repair patterns, and departmental goals.
- Review work requests, identify additional necessary or preventative maintenance, and assist service advisors in explaining technical needs to customers.
- Ensure all technician stories, diagnostic steps, and parts used are documented accurately on repair orders.
