About The Position

The Shop & Field Service Technician is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing power generation equipment in both the shop and at customer locations. This position performs mechanical and electrical work, conducts operational testing, diagnoses equipment failures, and provides technical support to customers while ensuring equipment meets company quality standards and customer expectations. The technician works independently and as part of a team to complete shop production, field service, startup, commissioning, preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and after-sales support. This position is considered safety-sensitive and requires employees to safely perform all essential job functions in accordance with Company policies and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and power generation equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret: Blueprints, Schematics, Wiring diagrams, Engineering drawings, Service manuals.
  • Experience using: Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Voltmeters, Ammeters, Measurement devices, OEM diagnostic software.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and specialty equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational education in mechanical, electrical, diesel, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with power generation equipment, industrial equipment, diesel engines, hydraulics, or field service preferred.
  • Previous experience in mechanical assembly, electrical troubleshooting, equipment testing, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Field service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install mechanical and electrical components, assemblies, and subassemblies according to drawings, specifications, and company standards.
  • Assemble and install power generation equipment and related systems.
  • Perform mechanical alignments, electrical wiring, and system integration.
  • Verify proper fit, function, and quality of completed installations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, and engineering drawings.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, diesel engine, electrical, and control system failures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment using diagnostic software, OEM tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, ammeters, and other testing equipment.
  • Repair or replace defective components.
  • Perform adjustments and corrective actions to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
  • Support retrofit projects, upgrades, and equipment modifications.
  • Perform startup, commissioning, operational verification, and functional testing of power generation equipment.
  • Monitor operating parameters using gauges, meters, and diagnostic software.
  • Verify equipment performance meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Record test results, inspections, observations, and corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot issues discovered during testing and commissioning.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform installation, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, commissioning, and emergency service.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during equipment outages.
  • Respond to customer service requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Represent the company professionally while working at customer sites.
  • Communicate equipment conditions and repair recommendations with customers.
  • Provide basic operational training on equipment use and maintenance.
  • Answer customer questions and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through quality workmanship and professionalism.
  • Complete service reports, inspection reports, commissioning documents, maintenance records, and production paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Maintain records of repairs, parts usage, inspections, and service activities.
  • Communicate technical issues and repair requirements with supervisors, engineering, production, and other departments.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Properly maintain tools and equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
  • Support team members through knowledge sharing and training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management team.
  • Adhere to and promote safe work practices at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Lead by example in upholding all safety policies and procedures.
