Position Summary The Shop Electrician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and installing electrical systems primarily on industrial equipment and power generators secondarily, on lift trucks and related equipment. This role focuses heavily on control systems, generator end work, wiring, and electrical troubleshooting in a shop environment. The ideal candidate is hands-on, capable of working independently, and comfortable with both high- and low-voltage systems.

Requirements

  • Technical or vocational training in electrical systems, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial electrical work, power generation, or heavy equipment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial generators, natural gas or diesel-powered systems.
  • Familiarity with generator controllers (Deep Sea, Basler, DEIF, ComAp, etc.).
  • Experience with paralleling systems and load bank testing.
  • Basic engine knowledge (diesel, gasoline, propane) to support electrical troubleshooting.
  • Welding/tacking ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on industrial generators, lift trucks, and related equipment using multimeters, load banks, and diagnostic tools.
  • Install, wire, and commission generator control systems (e.g., Deep Sea, Basler, DEIF, etc.).
  • Perform generator end (alternator) wiring, terminations, and troubleshooting.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
  • Install and troubleshoot components including sensors, actuators, relays, breakers, and harnesses.
  • Assist with generator package builds, refurbishments, and upgrades (parallel systems, load banks, etc.).
  • Verify proper operation of systems through testing, load banking, and functional checks.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes and safety standards, including NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks as needed to support electrical work (removal/install of components).
  • Maintain accurate service records, test results, and documentation of work performed.
  • Operate equipment as needed for troubleshooting and validation.
  • Assist with shop organization, cleanliness, and workflow as needed.
  • Support parts and service teams when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
