About The Position

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Shop Assistant is responsible for the general cleanliness of the shop and adjacent yard staging areas. The Shop Assistant assists mechanics and the Shop Foreman with various tasks. This entry level position is well suited for an applicant who is looking to progress and become an Equipment Operator or Mechanic in the future.

Requirements

  • Willing and able to work in a dusty/dirty environment both indoors and outdoors
  • Strong work ethic
  • Valid driver’s license and good MVR is required
  • Ability to learn and handle various solvents and fluids used in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • A willingness to work overtime, if required, especially when shuttling employees
  • A willingness to occasionally work out of town in the field for very short periods of time (lodging and transportation will be provided)
  • Ability to occasionally lift at least 75 pounds
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the workshop is clean and tidy
  • Power wash equipment at the shop or in the field as required
  • Stock, organize and pick up parts from vendors as directed by the Shop Foreman
  • Perform flagging duties of heavy equipment
  • Shuttle employees to and from various job sites
  • Keep outside yard and staging areas free of garbage and weeds
  • Assist mechanics with repairs and maintenance of road construction equipment
  • Able to work independently and with other employees
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety policies and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and inspections
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others
  • Understand and comply with Company policies and procedures
  • Promote a team approach and maintain an open and respectful approach to communication with all employees
  • Wear appropriate protective equipment: steel toed boots, hard hats, ear and eye protection
