About The Position

Join the team at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, a nationally recognized Five-Star destination and a City of Phoenix Point of Pride. Spread across 1,650 acres, we host over 240,000 shooters annually, offering a premier, safe, and exciting environment for enthusiasts. We are looking for a high-energy, safety-conscious Range Master to lead the action at our Clay Target Center. Be a Leader: Oversee public shooting, mentor volunteers, and represent the Arizona Game & Fish Department. Dynamic Environment: No two days are the same, ranging from supporting major tournaments to interacting with visitors of all skill levels. Hands-on Action: Maintain, load, and troubleshoot sophisticated clay target machinery and keep our world-class facilities in top shape. Be the Expert: Provide guidance on firearms safety, techniques, and hunter education.

Requirements

  • Ability to legally possess a firearm 8 U.S. Code § 922(g)
  • Successfully pass a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance check
  • Pre-employment medical screening
  • Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment
  • Must be able to legally possess a firearm per 8 U.S. Code § 922(g)
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of construction, mechanical/electrical maintenance, or related fields is a plus
  • Experience working with the public in a high-volume, high-stress environment
  • Strong customer service skills

Responsibilities

  • Completing assignments independently with little supervision and representing management and the Department on a shift-by-shift basis in his/her absence
  • Enforce range safety procedures and standards, detect and report vandalism and trespass infractions
  • Detect and fix maintenance issues, including troubleshooting clay target machines, pulling trash, cleaning brass/hulls, and performing basic landscaping duties
  • Oversee the daily activities of volunteer Range Safety Officers and assist and instruct the public on firearms use and safety
  • Instruct the general public in the various clay target disciplines
  • Load and maintain clay target machines
  • Assist in the operation of corporate events, registered tournaments, and other events on the range
  • Directly responsible for the operation and safe use of the public shooting facilities
  • Provides program and range information and aids in interpreting rules and regulations to customers
  • Performs other duties as assigned
