About The Position

The Shipping Supervisor has primary responsibility for supervising and coordinating with all departments and sales to schedule the shipping and loading of trucks on the assigned shift. This role oversees or performs administrative duties related to preparing paperwork for accurate order billing and inventory records. The Shipping Supervisor ensures procedures are followed to achieve high productivity in the most cost-efficient manner possible while maintaining customer specifications, food safety requirements, and company standards. This position directs a team of employees and is responsible for employee performance, development, safety, and work schedules.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of independent decision-making.
  • Basic computer knowledge required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • New team members must be able to pass a drug, alcohol and background screening post-offer and prior to the start of their employment.
  • The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that verification of employment eligibility be documented for all new employees by the end of their third day of work.
  • Must have 20/20 corrected vision and color vision.
  • Must be willing to participate in an audit team or safety committee.
  • Must comply with all safety rules and instructions, participate in company training programs, and make every effort to learn, develop, and upgrade skills required for this job classification.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of previous Shipping Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Poultry or food industry experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience with five (5) or more employees preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Examine contents and compare records, such as invoices and orders, to ensure accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Coordinate daily department activities with the 1st Shift Shipping Supervisor; confer with Retail, Shipping, Process Superintendent, and 2nd Shift Superintendent to resolve damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Oversee or perform packing, sealing, labeling, and affixing postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, postage meters, and other work devices.
  • Record shipment data, including weight, charges, space availability, damage, and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.
  • Compute amounts such as space availability, shipping, storage, and demurrage charges using calculators, price lists, or other approved tools.
  • Promote safety throughout the area where the crew is working and ensure safe working practices are followed.
  • Apply the production schedule when assigning work to employees to meet established schedules and quality standards for manufactured meat products.
  • Prepare required production activity, quality, shipping, and inventory records and reports.
  • Check operations regularly to ensure processes, schedules, quality, productivity, food safety, and safety standards are maintained.
  • Schedule employee vacations, holidays, and start times; review and approve department employees’ time and attendance weekly.
  • Coordinate department activities with other production departments to maintain proper product flow.
  • Investigate, in cooperation with other departments, opportunities for quality improvement, cost reduction, method improvement, yield control, and equipment maintenance; provide recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintain assigned areas in clean and orderly condition; ensure proper care and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Handle employee concerns in accordance with established policy and make recommendations regarding hiring, termination, transfer, promotion, training, discipline, and other appropriate changes of status.
  • Manage employee performance by providing positive and corrective feedback.
  • Promote department and company goodwill through proactive employee communication and involvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
