About The Position

The Shipping Specialist is responsible for facilitating the work movement through the shipping department, including counting, closing, reservations, packing, shipping, and inventory cycle counts. This role involves preparing status reports, completing shipping closes, performing first issues in the SyteLine system, and verifying shipments. The specialist will also ensure the area is clean and organized, manage incoming orders, complete cycle count reports, and audit areas quarterly. Key responsibilities include preparing orders for shipment, verifying counts, lot numbers, and part numbers, packing materials per customer specifications, and processing all necessary shipping paperwork. The role also involves arranging shipments through various carriers efficiently and in a timely manner, verifying Auto bagger runs, and working as an active team member to improve processes. This position requires attention to detail in maintaining property, tools, equipment, and machines, ensuring accuracy in shipments, receipts, and inventory, and communicating effectively with personnel regarding shipment schedules or inventory processing. The specialist will also train employees of lower classifications and demonstrate initiative in problem-solving related to inventory control, storage, and shipping. Safety responsibilities include maintaining good housekeeping and adhering to company safety rules. The role requires ingenuity in packaging and shipping goods efficiently and storing inventory appropriately, making suggestions for workflow improvements, and taking on additional work as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to read and write English of a required in Company shop documents, shipping and receiving documentation and computer software entry and processing requirements.
  • Capable of applying mathematical operations including fractions and decimals, as required by warehouse/shipping operations.
  • Equivalent or higher than 9th grade level education.
  • 5 years work experience in warehouse/shipping/receiving operations or equivalent skills and knowledge expertise.
  • Must have maintained an inventory control system similar or comparable to that used by the Company.
  • Must be familiar with domestic and foreign shipping rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in warehouse/shipping/receiving operations.
  • Able to lift over 30-50 pounds with the assistance of other employees or with proper equipment.
  • Requires strength in opening and maneuvering crates, boxes, raw materials etc.
  • Able to reach, bend, stretch and manipulate small parts with hands and fingers.
  • Capable of operating computer and processing paperwork necessary for inventory control and shipping.
  • Able to operate a forklift.
  • Most job assignments require continuous standing and/or sitting for periods exceeding 15 minutes at a time.
  • Close attention to detailed documentation.
  • Capable of accurately counting various size pieces for inventory and shipping requirements.
  • Requires close and distance vision, color vision and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • Able to close jobs in the Component / Blank cages by total quantities for master paperwork (routers) provided. This will be performed in the absence or excessive workload in the area.
  • Verify with Supervisor / Manager of all shipments that were either assigned or sent by email. This list should be included with end of day report.
  • Other employees can verify as well and initial the router, to prevent errors.
  • Assist others in the department.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate work movement through the shipping department, including counting, closing, reservations, packing, shipping, and inventory cycle counts.
  • Provide daily status reports of items in the shipping area, including dollar value of each order, to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Complete shipping closes for each job counted by total quantity within a 10-15 minute window.
  • Close jobs in Component/Blank cages by total quantities for master paperwork in the absence or excessive workload of the area.
  • Perform first issues for each component pulled and processed in the SyteLine system.
  • Verify all shipments assigned or sent by email with the Supervisor/Manager and include this list with the end-of-day report.
  • Ensure all 5S principles are met by the end of the shift and the area is cleaned prior to leaving.
  • Put away all partial inventory at the end of each shift daily.
  • Track incoming orders on an hourly basis or as needed to ensure work is distributed and prioritized, keeping the Supervisor/Manager informed.
  • Complete Cycle Count reports once issued and verify them once printed and disbursed, as advised by the Logistics Manager or Inventory Control Clerk.
  • Audit all areas on a quarterly basis within the guidelines of the Cycle Count procedure.
  • Prepare orders for shipment, verifying counts, lot numbers, part numbers, and paperwork for packages.
  • Pack material per customer specification and seal and label all packages.
  • Review and verify all orders from shipping employees prior to Supervisor sign-off.
  • Process paperwork for shipments, including packing slips, bill of ladings, manifests, and carrier logs.
  • Arrange shipments through various carriers in a cost-efficient and timely manner.
  • Verify after each Auto bagger run to ensure correct information is on the bag and it meets customer requirements.
  • Work as an active team member by participating in problem-solving, team building, and all team activities to improve processes, production quality, etc.
  • Use interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communication.
  • Assist others in the department.
  • Perform duties where property, tools, equipment, or machines may be damaged, or man hours lost through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing.
  • Ensure accuracy of shipments, receipts, and inventory.
  • Communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding shipment schedules or inventory processing.
  • Train employees of lower classifications in shipping and receiving methods and procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to Company Safety Rules.
  • Demonstrate initiative in solving problems associated with inventory control, storage, and rotation of stock, as well as shipping product in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Use ingenuity to package and ship goods most efficiently, as well as store inventory in a manner conducive to production needs.
  • Make suggestions for improving the efficiency of workflow or equipment operation.
  • Take on or report for additional work as current tasks are completed.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as deemed necessary by Company priorities.
