About The Position

Responsible for directing and coordinating shipping and receiving activities. This role will work closely with operations, quality, finance, and a wide range of internal and external suppliers to drive strategic planning, approvals, and execution across all raw and product materials. In addition to delivering the business goals, the individual will work across the organization to build processes that will act as a foundation for the Shipping and Receiving of items for the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a shipping and receiving department
  • U.S. person status (due to contractual requirements subject to ITAR)

  • Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school
  • Experience using ERP (Epicor a plus) systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

  • Excellent initiative, independently identify situations that need direction and follow through on corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Work with management to establish shipping and receiving control standards, develop budget and cost controls.
  • Ensure proper shipment of all manufactured goods.
  • Ensure proper receipt of all purchased items.
  • Manage all raw materials including Kanban materials.
  • Ensure all inventory accuracies (counts); including raw material, purchased items, and finished goods.
  • Plan and direct shipping and receiving activities and establish department priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving activities with operations, procurement, and quality control departments to obtain optimum levels.
  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve department performance.
  • Revise shipping schedules and priorities as needed and communicate to internal stakeholders.
  • Resolve employee grievances as required. Elevate unresolved grievances to management.
  • Work with team to improve Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including accurate counting, labeling, lot traceability documentation, verification of work steps.
  • Compile, store, and retrieve department data. Ensure all data integrity.
  • Review data entry errors to identify process improvements that focus on reduced errors.
  • Lead cycle counting activities for improved inventory accuracy.
  • Lead the cross-training efforts of the shipping and receiving team members.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Develop and drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives to eliminate waste and inefficiencies in both the material and information flow processes. Apply best practices mentality to both large scale projects and day-to-day actions. This includes overproduction, defects, transportation, waiting, inventory, motion, and over-processing.
  • Use ERP System to schedule and expedite the release and completion of work orders for sawing operations.
  • Back-up the Sr. Buyer on preparing purchase orders or bid requests.
