The Shipping Lead is responsible for coordinating daily shipping and warehouse activities to ensure accurate, timely, and safe outbound shipments. This role provides hands-on leadership to the shipping team, manages shipping documentation within the ERP system, supports inventory accuracy, and serves as a key communication link between drivers, carriers, and internal teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional logistics or warehouse training preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipping, warehouse operations, or logistics leadership is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (AX or similar) and shipping documentation requirements is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assign, and oversee daily warehouse and shipping activities, including order picking, staging, and material movement and ensure timely and accurate shipments.
  • Prepare, review, and manage shipping documentation in the AX/ERP system, including pick lists, scrap tag pick lists, and Bills of Lading (BOLs).
  • Ensure FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory practices are consistently followed across all shipping and staging areas.
  • Confirm, reconcile, and close shipments at the end of each day, ensuring physical shipments align with system records.
  • Review completed order lists and warehouse inventory to identify materials ready for shipment and prioritize outbound orders.
  • Investigate and correct inventory discrepancies in AX; support daily, monthly, and bi-annual inventory counts to maintain accuracy.
  • Conduct daily check-ins with truck drivers, verifying pickup details, documentation, and shipment information prior to loading.
  • Communicate proactively with customers to schedule shipments, follow up on missed or delayed pickups, and provide shipment status updates.
  • Maintain ongoing email communication with customers, carriers, and internal teams regarding shipping activities throughout the day.
  • Update and maintain shipping and inventory tracking spreadsheets to monitor performance, pending shipments, and key metrics.
  • Capture and present operational data on GEMBA boards to support visual management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Train and onboard new employees in warehouse and shipping operations, including material handling, loading, and unloading procedures.
  • Participate in daily production meetings to provide shipping updates and align outbound priorities with production schedules.
  • Lead safety talks and reinforce safe work practices within the shipping and warehouse areas.
