About The Position

This role involves packing and re-packing a wide variety of materials, ensuring they meet specific release order requirements. The packer will determine the appropriate packing method based on provided documentation and instructions, including military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (HAZNAT) and radioactive materials (RAD). The position reports to a designated Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) months general work experience demonstrating ability to perform the requirements of the position.
  • High school diploma or GED required. May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school.
  • Must be able to obtain a license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
  • Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT Certification must be able to successfully pass training requirements.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and walk.
  • Full manual dexterity.
  • Correctable vision.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DLA regulations.
  • Familiarity with Military Standards, DOD Manuals, HAZNAT, and RAD requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
  • Ensures material is properly preserved/packaged/marked/labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
  • Selects proper size container and cushioning from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
  • Conducts basic inspection/examination procedures for material.
  • Reads specifications and photographs as/if required in DLA contract.
  • May operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to load material on and off skids, pallets, stands, and vehicles.
  • Receives data from and inputs data to DSS and other automated systems, and prepares basic reports.
  • Counts, weighs, records data, prepares and applies tags/labels.
  • Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
