About The Position

The Shipping Manager is responsible for leading daily shipping, warehouse, and delivery operations to ensure products are shipped safely, accurately, and on schedule. This role oversees shipping personnel, warehouse staff, drivers, fleet coordination, and shipping documentation while collaborating closely with Sales, Production, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Operations teams. The Shipping Manager promotes operational excellence through efficient scheduling, inventory accuracy, continuous process improvement, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and customer satisfaction.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in shipping, warehouse, logistics, transportation, or distribution
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory management, shipping procedures, and logistics
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, inventory management, and shipping software
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical activities throughout the workday
  • Ability to regularly lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or alternate schedules based on operational needs

Nice To Haves

  • associate's or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred
  • Experience within building materials, lumber, millwork, manufacturing, or construction supply industries preferred
  • CDL knowledge or transportation experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of route planning, fleet coordination, and Lean or continuous improvement principles preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily shipping, loading, staging, and delivery operations
  • Coordinate shipping priorities and delivery schedules to meet customer commitments and production timelines
  • Monitor shipping workflow to ensure products are shipped accurately, efficiently, and on time
  • Ensure completed orders are properly packaged, staged, loaded, and secured prior to shipment
  • Collaborate with Production, Warehouse, and Sales teams to prioritize customer orders and delivery requirements
  • Supervise, coach, develop, and support shipping personnel, warehouse associates, delivery drivers, and related team members
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the shipping department
  • Establish daily work priorities and allocate resources to maximize operational efficiency
  • Foster a positive, safety-focused, and customer-oriented work environment
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, inventory control procedures, and shipping verification processes
  • Coordinate movement of inventory between warehouse, production, staging, and shipping areas
  • Monitor inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions when needed
  • Ensure warehouse, staging, and loading areas remain clean, organized, secure, and operationally efficient
  • Support warehouse process improvements that enhance inventory accuracy and workflow
  • Oversee safe operation and utilization of forklifts, trailers, loading equipment, and shipping assets
  • Coordinate routine inspections and maintenance of shipping equipment and material handling equipment
  • Report equipment issues, maintenance concerns, and operational risks promptly
  • Support route planning and fleet coordination to maximize delivery efficiency
  • Ensure company vehicles and shipping equipment remain clean, safe, and compliant with company standards
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Production, and Operations to ensure customer expectations are met
  • Resolve shipping issues, delivery discrepancies, and customer concerns promptly and professionally
  • Communicate shipping schedules, order status, and delivery updates to internal teams and customers
  • Coordinate with Purchasing regarding inbound materials and shipping priorities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen customer service and operational performance
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, DOT requirements (where applicable), and PPE standards
  • Conduct routine safety inspections throughout shipping and warehouse operations
  • Ensure safe loading, unloading, material handling, and shipping practices
  • Maintain shipping documentation, bills of lading, delivery records, and compliance reports
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
