About The Position

The Hourly Shipping Lead is responsible for supervising all employees assigned to the department. This role directs and oversees all runs, shipments, and aspects within the department, as well as training and cross-training employees. The lead is expected to maintain quality, efficiency, and production levels, communicate these standards to staff, and keep upper management informed of any issues affecting departmental performance. Establishing high morale through fairness, consistency, and interest in employee problems is also a key aspect of this role. The position requires maintaining confidentiality and managing the daily production schedule for customer deliveries, with recommendations for optimization to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals. Proficiency in shipping technology programs such as Amtech, Top Gun, and Outlook is necessary. The role involves meeting goals for trailer utilization, filling trailers, and shipping efficiently. Reporting maintenance needs and communicating with supervision to avoid problems between shift changes are also responsibilities. Adaptability to a flexible shift schedule to cover absences or call-ins is required, along with self-sufficiency in problem-solving and leading the department to meet daily goals. Safety goals and expectations within the department must be met and set. Enforcement of corrective action procedures and participation in meetings with violating employees are also part of the role. Compliance with all company policies and procedures is mandatory. Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years prior Supervisory experience
  • Specific knowledge of Shipping/Logistics.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Report to management in writing any maintenance, repairs, or preventive maintenance that is needing proper attention in the department.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Adapt to a flexible shift schedule to cover any absentees or call ins.
  • Be self-sufficient in problem solving and leading the department in meeting the daily goals.
  • Meet and set goals and expectations of safety within the department.
  • Enforce the corrective action procedures when applicable and notify shipping manager of issues.
  • Participate in meetings with the violating employees.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
