About The Position

We are seeking a highly organized and energetic Shipping Dock Manager to oversee the daily operations of our warehouse loading dock. In this role, you will be responsible for orchestrating the physical flow of goods, managing dock traffic, and supervising dock staff. Your primary goal will be to ensure that all inbound and outbound shipments are processed safely, accurately, and on schedule. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of warehouse logistics, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient workspace.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift Operator certification is required.
  • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and RF scanners.
  • Solid understanding of trailer weight distribution, cube optimization, and hands-on experience/knowledge of slip sheet loading.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, work in varying warehouse temperatures, and lift heavy items.
  • Strong communication, quick problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to work under high pressure, handle unexpected logistics delays, and solve problems quickly to meet strict routing deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Manhattan Active / SCALE is highly preferred and a major plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train warehouse handlers, forklift operators, and dock clerks.
  • Schedule and coordinate dock times for incoming and outgoing carriers.
  • Direct the physical flow of goods from packaging and staging to final truck loading.
  • Inspect the physical condition of dock equipment (shifters, ramps, forklifts) and arrange repairs.
  • Oversee loading and unloading operations to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage diverse unit loads, including standard palletized freight, floor-loaded goods, and specialized slip-sheeted shipments using push-pull attachments.
  • Verify physical shipment counts and conditions against basic shipping documents like Bills of Lading (BOL).
  • Troubleshoot staging bottlenecks to keep dock doors clear and trucks moving on time.
  • Scan and log movements using warehouse management systems (WMS) or handheld inventory scanners.
  • Enforce strict compliance with major retail customer routing guides to prevent costly vendor chargebacks and penalties.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for truck drivers and domestic freight carriers on the dock.
  • Resolve immediate shipment discrepancies or loading issues directly with drivers.
  • Collaborate with warehouse managers to optimize daily shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Enforce strict warehouse safety programs and OSHA regulations across all loading dock zones.
