About The Position

The Shipping and Receiving Associate will be responsible for managing the inbound and outbound movements of product. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the Warehouse Management System (WMS), including product entry, storage, and shipping processes. The associate will interact with drivers, verify identification, assign dock doors, and manage the check-in/check-out process. Key responsibilities include accurate data entry, generating shipping documentation, reporting discrepancies, and maintaining professional relationships with carriers and customers. The role may also involve acting as a Welcome Center Associate and Security Guard, requiring oversight of check-in/check-out procedures, trailer verification, and yard checks. The position requires effective communication with drivers, potentially working outdoors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Familiar with and able to interpret packing slips
  • Use a WMS to process and track the flow of goods coming and going from the warehouse.
  • May require physical effort associated with using the computer to access information, or standing, walking, using stairs, and lifting needed to carry out everyday activities.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective communication, vision, and hearing are essential for safety and productivity.
  • Operate scanners, tablets, radios, phones, computers, and other essential warehouse equipment as required.
  • Operate a registered motor vehicle if apart of daily tasks.
  • Engage in frequent personal interaction and communication.
  • Possess strong arithmetic and reading skills.
  • Follow verbal instructions, written instructions, and company policies.

  • Follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with carriers and other contacts regarding the inbound and outbound movements of their product.
  • Enter product into the WMS, understand how product is stored, and shipped out of the facility.
  • Engage with drivers, verify driver identification, assign dock doors, and check drivers in and out.
  • Knowledge of product location within the warehouse to effectively assign dock doors.
  • Communicate any issues to the warehouse for planning.
  • Accurately enter data into the system from carrier/customer paperwork to process inbounds.
  • Generate bill documentation, ensure carrier reviews paperwork, and confirm the driver has correct paperwork for the load with the correct destination.
  • Report overages, shortages, defective materials, or questionable conditions as per customer requirements to the department supervisor and note on carrier/customer documentation.
  • Put all necessary information regarding appointments, including driver’s paperwork, seal, trailer number, etc.
  • Act as the final check point for order completion and accuracy prior to releasing the driver.
  • Identify extra charges for pallets, overtime, labor, etc., and collect appropriate charges from the driver.
  • Assist Customer Accounts with the posting of inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Maintain professional relationships with carriers and customers.
  • Act as a Welcome Center Associate and Security Guard when needed, overseeing check-in/check-out, trailer verification, yard checks, and sealed trailer verification.
  • Work effectively outside to communicate with drivers.
