About The Position

Operates an industrial sized forklift to receive and transfer product, supplies, and materials to appropriate area while meeting customer regulations and specifications. The Operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first, and noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates or containers. They will record items added or removed from inventory, prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring they are properly loaded and sealed correctly. The role involves using an industrial forklift and a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. Working from written or verbal instructions, the operator will pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. This role also includes performing minor service of equipment, completing written daily safety inspections, identifying and reporting problems to the supervisor, and changing batteries or fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, or troubleshooting repairs as needed. The Shipper Receiver will maintain a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment, adhere to storage design principles, and recommend improvements. They will create product labels for inventory purposes, read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules. The position requires completing various reports daily and entering required information into a computer program efficiently and timely. Basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses will be used. Partial pallets will be consolidated as directed by the production supervisor. Operators must be able to maneuver a forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone. The role involves participating as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness, and accepting responsibility to identify and resolve issues. The Shipper Receiver must be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems and understand their role in supporting these systems, including the impact of individual actions and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift; must be able to back fork-lift up safely which requires turning the neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Will be required to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes.
  • Safety Glasses, Rubber Gloves, Rubber boots, Rubber Apron, Hearing Protection, and any other PPE as required in appropriate area.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar, FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN and JDE.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
  • A highly responsive ability to react to daily production priorities in a calm and focused manner.

  • Preferred experience in shipping and receiving, working with large moving equipment.

  • Uses basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses.
  • Consolidates partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuvers forklift in tight spaces, while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and resolving issues.
  • Maintains familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and understands the responsibility to support these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
