About The Position

The operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace. This includes rotating stock, noting and reporting damaged goods, and recording inventory changes. The role involves preparing products for shipment, loading and sealing them correctly, and using an industrial forklift and handheld scanner for lot tracking and accurate inventory. The operator will work from written or verbal instructions, operate a forklift to move product, and adhere to department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities also include performing minor equipment service, completing safety inspections, changing forklift batteries or fuel bottles, and maintaining a clean work area. The role requires creating product labels, understanding lot numbers and expiration dates, completing reports, and using basic tools. The operator must be able to consolidate partial pallets, maneuver a forklift safely in tight spaces, and participate as a team member, fostering cohesiveness and supporting team goals. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems is expected, along with performing other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back fork-lift up safely which requires turning neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Will be required to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes.
  • Safety Glasses, Rubber Gloves, Rubber boots, Rubber Apron, Hearing Protection, and any other PPE as required in the appropriate area.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar, FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN and JDE.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain company issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the storage area.
  • Rotate stock so oldest materials are used first.
  • Note and report any damaged cartons, crates or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated product and ensuring it is properly loaded and sealed correctly.
  • Store product using an industrial forklift and use a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load and unload product on, or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform minor service of equipment and complete written daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report noted problems to supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Change batteries or fuel bottles, refuel forklift or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
  • Maintain the work area, dock and equipment in a clean and orderly condition adhere to storage design principles, and recommend improvement.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter the required information into the computer program efficiently and timely.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air, and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by productions supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone for other drivers and team members.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and supporting team goals.
  • Familiarize with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity and the position's role in support of these systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
