About The Position

Operates an industrial sized forklift to receive and transfer product, supplies, and materials to appropriate area while meeting customer regulations and specifications. The Operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first, and noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates or containers. They will record items added or removed from inventory and prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring they are properly loaded and sealed correctly. The role involves using an industrial forklift and a hand held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. Operators will work from written or verbal instructions, pick up, move, load and unload product on or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities include performing minor service of equipment, completing written daily safety inspections, identifying and reporting noted problems to the supervisor, and changing batteries or fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, or troubleshooting repairs as needed. The role also requires maintaining a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment, adhering to storage design principles, and recommending improvements. Creating product labels for inventory purposes, reading and understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules, and completing various reports daily and entering required information into a computer program efficiently and timely are also key duties. The position requires using basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses, and consolidating partial pallets as directed. Operators must be able to maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone. The role involves participating as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness, accepting responsibility to identify areas lacking cohesiveness, and working with the team to resolve issues. Familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) is expected, along with understanding the responsibility to maintain familiarity and the position's role in supporting these systems. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back fork-lift up safely which requires turning the neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Will be required to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes.
  • Safety Glasses, Rubber Gloves, Rubber boots, Rubber Apron, Hearing Protection, and any other PPE as required in appropriate area.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar, FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time, RFGEN and JDE.
  • Perform basic math.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company issued forklift license.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.

  • Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and the position’s role in support of these systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
