About The Position

The Shift Support Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient production operations. This position involves providing support across various production roles and machines, training new team members, and maintaining equipment functionality and safety standards. The operator will also be responsible for adhering to production procedures, maintaining a clean work area, collaborating with the team to meet targets, and potentially traveling to assist other plants. Continuous improvement and problem-solving are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

Proficient in operating all major machines/equipment and production functions throughout the plant.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to different production tasks and roles.
Ability to effectively train others on processes and procedures.
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow instructions.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate machinery, crane, and forklift.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements.
Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers.
Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions.
Ability to correctly retrieve and input data into a computer.
Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with teammates and supervisors.
Critical thinking skills.
Time management skills.
Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
Ability to travel within region up to 20% of time as needed.
Forklift and/or crane certification is required.

Nice To Haves

A high school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of Steel Technologies machine operator experience is preferred.
Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

Responsibilities

Proficient in all major production roles, machines and equipment.
Provide support and fill in as needed in different production roles and areas (e.g., vacant position, teammate absence, hotspots to increase productivity/eliminate bottlenecks, etc.).
Train new teammates on different production roles, including operation of machines/equipment, processes, safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Ensure proper machine/equipment functioning and adherence to safety protocols.
Follow established production procedures and guidelines to ensure quality standards and efficiency.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment, tools, and materials.
Collaborate with teammates and supervisors to meet production targets and resolve production-related issues.
Comply with all safety regulations and practices to maintain a safe working environment.
Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, suggest ideas, and contribute to the overall success of the production area.
Travel within the region to assist other plants as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
