About The Position

This is a salaried exempt position. Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Shift Supervisor is primarily responsible for the operation, supervision, and performance of the plant on their assigned shift. The Shift Supervisor is responsible to lead their team by providing direction, leadership, motivation, communication, training, coaching and discipline as needed and within site guidelines for all colleagues within the area of responsibility. Responsible for scheduling of team including vacation time, ensuring cross-training is performed sufficiently to maintain safe and efficient performance of the site during all shifts. Demonstrate strong communication skills in both face to face and written communication. Responsible to communicate shift performance, downtime issues, Root Cause analysis results for issues on shift, and other incident reports as occasion requires. Responsible to play an active role in and coach others in programs including human safety, feed & food safety, quality, environmental standards, Performance Excellence (CI). Directing daily production and maintenance activities Responsible to report defects and needed repairs via Maximo work requests (or similar), safety and environmental defects or events/near misses via Sphera Cloud reporting system (or similar) Demonstrate commitment to improving safety, processes and efficiency of the plant Serve as person in charge during shift for site operations providing direction and to provide technical guidance and other assistance, as needed. Leads his/her Team in achieving Zero recordable / lost work day injuries A thorough understanding of the oilseed processing operations to be gained/improved by hands-on experience, classroom and technical programs. Manage and direct all department operations so as to maximize operational efficiency and effectively control departmental costs Manage the training and coaching for all shift personnel to ensure the use of proper safety practices, operating procedures, company systems, policies and procedures. Interacts with all plant personnel To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily Other duties may be assigned Some trainings and team meetings will be held outside of shift hours and must be attended.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong fundamental skills (math, reading, writing).
  • Prior experience leading / supervising people is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, capable of making decisions independently with minimal oversight.
  • Results-driven mindset to support and achieve the goals established by leadership.
  • The ability to motivate and engage direct reports and demonstrate leadership qualities to all plant personnel.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Applicant must be able to manage teams, make timely decisions, complete safety and work permits, and production logs.
  • Computer skills and demonstratable proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Applicants must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicant must be able to work in all types of climates both inside and out including extreme hot and cold temperatures, noisy environments, heights, dusty environments, all of which require use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Able to operate and diagnose / detect equipment to detect issues with machinery located throughout the plant.
  • Able to work at heights, climb stairs, access ladders, catwalks and elevated working platforms.
  • Frequent walking in and around the work site approximately 2 or more miles during the course of a shift.
  • This role requires frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting and may require prolonged periods of sitting or standing during the course of a work day.
  • Able to be respirator qualified.
  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 55 pounds overhead.
  • Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.

  • Experience in extraction, grain handling at scale, oilseed processing, or manufacturing.
