About The Position

Supervisors are responsible for ensuring teams of Mental Health Specialists (MHS) deliver exceptional direct care services in a house or on a unit under the direction of a Therapist or a Mental Health Professional (MHP) who is responsible for residents’ Active Treatment Plans. Supervisors have one of the most influential roles in our residents’ progress in treatment. Through management of the logistical functions related to the operation of a house or unit, Supervisors are essentially responsible for creating and maintaining an environment which supports a positive, therapeutic culture on a unit or in a house. Supervisors are responsible for a house or unit’s shift scheduling, routine on-the-job training, daily house activity schedules, house maintenance and cleanliness, supporting the work of all MHS in the house or on their respective unit, creating a positive culture of care, and ensuring resident participation in treatment.

Requirements

  • Must have a fundamental love for children and a desire to be an agent for change in their lives.
  • Must have empathy for others and practice the Golden Rule in relationships with residents and their families, with fellow staff member and with others.
  • Must be an active, eager learner and willing to try new methods.
  • Must have a high school degree or a GED and have two years experience providing direct services in a mental health, physical health, social services, educational or correctional setting.
  • Must possess a strong sense of personal authority, maturity and integrity for a positive, influential role with residents.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills to promote staff unity, staff morale and cooperative relationships among various agency departments.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a diverse range of audiences and settings.
  • Must be skilled in conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Must use good social skills with residents, their family members and fellow staff members.
  • Must protect the confidentiality of residents, their family members and all Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to commit to significant job responsibilities.
  • Must be flexible and able to function in demanding position.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a mental health-related field (including, but not limited to sociology, criminal justice, nursing, marriage and family counseling, rehabilitation counseling, psychological counseling and other professional counseling)
  • Have earned a Bachelor’s degree and is a student pursuing a graduate degree in a mental health-related field and have completed at least two courses in that identified field

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the provision of compassionate, culturally sensitive services.
  • Ensure all house or unit residents are present and on time for all clinical activities. Any absence from a clinical activity must be preapproved by the LMHP responsible for a resident’s Active Treatment Plan.
  • Create a culture of care which discourages the use of protective holds and escorts.
  • With the assistance of the LMHP, create a living environment which residents evaluate positively.
  • Ensure agency’s Behavioral Management Plan is implemented with fidelity by the MHS they supervise.
  • Actively participate in clinical staffings and communicate fully regarding the delivery of treatment services to the house or unit residents, each resident’s progress and condition on the unit or house, the impact of program operations on treatment, and house or unit staff’s adherence to each child’s Active Treatment Plan and the agency’s clinical standards.
  • Ensure Mental Health Specialists implement with fidelity all personalized interventions indicated in each resident’s Active Treatment Plan.
  • Provide direction and supervision to Mental Health Specialists and perform the duties necessary to ensure a structured, cohesive team including budgeting, hiring, discipline, recruiting, and scheduling of staff coverage.
  • Maintain the house or unit finances for allowances, haircuts, and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
