About The Position

The Shift Mechanic is responsible for maintaining all equipment, machinery, and the building in good working order and making necessary repairs. This role requires working a shift work schedule, including every other Sunday, and providing appropriate tools. The mechanic will coordinate job assignments with the Shift Supervisor to ensure maximum production uptime and efficiency, assist with facility evaluations, and oversee PM Operator functions. A strong understanding of pneumatics, electrical controls, and hydraulics is essential for diagnosing and correcting problems. The position involves performing preventive maintenance, completing work orders, managing maintenance parts inventory, and breaking down/setting up extrusion and thermoforming product on machinery according to established standards. The mechanic must have a full understanding of the extrusion and thermoforming process and machinery to ensure quality production uptime, diagnose and repair problems with minimal supervision, and adjust daily schedules as needed to maximize production. Responsibilities also include performing facility shutdown and startup procedures, making necessary building repairs (plumbing, roof, silos, trenches, HVAC, dock doors, chiller system, parking lot, etc.), equipment modifications, new equipment installations, following Hot Work Permit procedures, operating PIT equipment per OSHA specifications, performing housekeeping duties, and handling end-of-shift functions such as communicating issues to the next shift, cleaning the work area, and storing tools and parts. The role also involves unloading incoming product/material, assisting with facility audits, working overtime as needed, and complying with all company policies and safety regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
3 years experience of manufacturing maintenance experience to include: welding, trouble-shooting of pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical controls, and maintenance/repair of plant machinery.
Ability to understand, read, write and speak English.
Ability to operate a calculator.
Ability to read and understand instrumentation gauges and schematics.
Ability to understand and determine "differentiation pressures" from a pressure controller.
Able to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
Ability to recognize and identify problems with machines and/or material via collection of data and interpretation of that data.
Ability to apply common sense "understanding" to carry out written or oral instructions.
Ability to apply troubleshooting techniques to issues as they arise and seek help when necessary.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to differentiate between "good" and "bad" quality.
Powered Industrial Truck Certification (forklift, clamp, sissor lift, etc.).
Lockout/Tagout Certification.
On-site Hazmat Certification.
Hot Work Permit Certification.
Vision -- Close (20 inches) / Distance (20 feet).
Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).
Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
Loud (greater than 85 dba) work environment requires hearing protection.

Responsibilities

Maintain all equipment/machinery and building in good working order and repair as necessary.
Work the "Shift Work schedule" which includes every other Sunday.
Provide and maintain appropriate tools and toolbox to perform all necessary job functions.
Coordinate all job assignments with Shift Supervisor at start of shift to ensure maximum production uptime and efficiency.
Assist Shift Supervisor with proper facility evaluation procedures including machinery shutdown.
Oversee and coordinate PM Operator functions for the respective shift.
Diagnose and correct problems with pneumatics, electrical controls, and hydraulics.
Apply strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including reading schematics.
Perform assigned Preventive Maintenance/ Safety Programs per defined schedule with accurate and complete documentation.
Complete all assigned Work Orders in a timely manner.
Maintain Maintenance Parts Inventory per Infor and Plant Sanitation standards.
Breakdown and setup all Extrusion and Thermoforming product on machinery to standards.
Ensure quality production uptime by understanding the extrusion and thermoforming process and machinery.
Diagnose and repair problems with machinery (microphraser control panel, dies, ovens, trim press, etc.) with little to no supervision.
Adjust daily schedule (break times, meal periods, etc.) to ensure machinery is in full production to maximize production uptime.
Perform all facility shutdown and startup procedures correctly and completely.
Perform necessary repairs to building including plumbing, roof, silos, trenches, heating and air systems, dock doors and plates, chiller system, parking lot, building additions/renovations, equipment modifications, and new equipment installations.
Follow Hot Work Permit procedures and ensure proper documentation is completed and signed off.
Operate all PIT equipment per OSHA specifications, including daily inspections, changing of batteries/propane tank, etc.
Perform all housekeeping functions necessary to business operations in respective work areas.
Perform all "end of shift" job functions including communicating issues, cleaning and organizing work area, and properly storing maintenance parts and tools.
Unload "incoming" product/material for receipt and placement into facility.
Assist in building/machinery preparation of all Plant Sanitation/OSHA audits.
Work overtime as business demands, including monthly training classes.
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including all safety regulations.
Perform any and all job assignments/functions (including special projects) as necessary to daily business demands as instructed by Management.
