About The Position

Mission Foods is currently seeking a skilled shift Manager for their Jefferson GA Location. The shift Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of either the Flour or Corn Department. They will serve as a liaison between upper management and line employees, ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with internal and external regulations. This role also involves assisting the Plant Superintendent in the supervision and administration of the Production Department, planning production needs, preparing and maintaining budgets, evaluating and approving purchases of new equipment and process modifications, implementing systems and standards for quality, supervising and administrating production employees, solving operational problems, and driving continuous improvement. The Shift Manager is directly responsible for food safety and quality, ensuring equipment and facilities are maintained, and that department employees receive proper training. They must be aware of their role in the Food Safety Management System and report any food safety or quality issues to appropriate personnel. Promoting an adequate work environment is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Familiar with the quality system requirements of the plant.
  • Ensure that all activities of the process are conducted within the specifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing management, Engineering, Business, or related field required.
  • 5 years of production experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience in manufacturing management roles with a proven track record in leading manufacturing teams to improve continuously the efficiency of production methods and, ultimately, the quality of products.
  • Experience and exposure to regulatory inspections (AIB, OSHA, MILITARY, Health Dept., EPA, City & County Inspectors).
  • Experience with Quality Systems and Programs.
  • Experience with manufacturing safety concepts, applications, and committees.
  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practices, LEAN Manufacturing, 5's, World Class Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma.
  • Team management/leadership/development skills, including the ability to manage people in an organization matrix and get the best out of them.
  • Maturity, self-confidence, and effective communication skills.
  • A multicultural approach to operating in a diverse business environment.
  • Budget preparation and Cost analysis.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to manage a 3-shift operation required.
  • Directly responsible for food safety and quality by ensuring equipment and facilities are maintained and ensuring that the training and education of department employees in his/her area is done.
  • Responsible for reviewing and auditing performance and driving continuous improvement.
  • Be aware of the role in the Food Safety Management System by awareness of the importance and relevance of his/her activities and to report food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the daily operations of either the Flour or Corn Department.
  • Serving as a liaison between upper management and line employees.
  • Ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with internal and external regulations.
  • Verifying and controlling that Flour/Corn production KPIs (Yield, Waste, Overweight, Efficiency, Labor, etc.) are within or better than budget.
  • Communicating the production schedules to the Supervisors/Leads.
  • Reporting any discrepancy in the documentation (work instructions, charts, forms, etc.).
  • Revising training needs and conducting training for Supervisors and employees in different areas, and maintaining records (AIB, training, Safety, etc.).
  • Ensuring department safety.
  • Resolving process problems.
  • Performing safety and sanitation inspections and keeping records.
  • Resolving problems between employees and documenting any disciplinary actions.
  • Promoting teamwork within his/her department and with other departments.
  • Setting specific goals to improve the department.
  • Assisting the Plant Superintendent in the supervision and administration of the Production Department.
  • Assisting the Plant Superintendent in planning the production needs.
  • Preparing and maintaining Production and Maintenance budgets.
  • Evaluating and approving purchases of new equipment and modifications to existing ones.
  • Evaluating and approving modifications to the process.
  • Implementing systems, standards, and specifications involving the quality of the corn flour and ingredients used.
  • Supervising and administrating the Production employees.
  • Administrative duties related to the production of corn flour.
  • Solving operational problems related to the production of corn flour.
  • Continuous improvement of the production of corn flour.
  • Creating and performing changes (when needed) to the operational procedures (PB09).
  • Reviewing, creating, and approving level “C” and “D” documents of the procedure listed above.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Directly responsible for food safety and quality by ensuring equipment and facilities are maintained and ensuring that the training and education of department employees in his/her area is done.
  • Responsible for reviewing and auditing performance and driving continuous improvement.
