About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Shift Manager Energy & Utilities at our Middletown, OH plant within the Energy department. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of energy systems that support the entire Middletown Works site. This includes pumps, motors, turbines, clarifiers, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment systems, boilers, and a wide range of utility piping. You will support departments by coordinating maintenance and repairs on plant-wide water, gas, and air systems to ensure safe and reliable operations. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; a technical degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial systems such as pumping, wastewater treatment, compressed air, steam generation, or underground piping.
  • Ability and willingness to support a 24/7 operating environment, including potential on-call responsibilities during nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, with strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving operational and mechanical issues in an industrial environment.
  • Proven ability to ensure equipment availability, perform or oversee inspections, and support preventative maintenance programs.
  • Commitment to maintaining safe operations, regulatory compliance, and high standards of efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily production and maintenance activities, ensuring equipment repairs and upkeep are completed efficiently and within budget.
  • Provide leadership to bargaining unit and contractor employees, including training on job requirements, company policies, performance expectations, and safety standards.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including pre-shift safety briefings, monthly safety meetings, inspections, and procedure reviews.
  • Document safety performance, conduct incident investigations, and address safety or housekeeping concerns promptly.
  • Monitor and communicate operational status, ensuring that incoming shifts and upper management are aware of ongoing issues and priorities.
  • Support 24/7 operations by being the primary contact for critical equipment needs; position operates primarily on day shift but requires on-call availability.
