About The Position

Farnsworth Group is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager – Energy & Utilities. In this role, you will lead the Electrical Energy & Utilities team and provide both technical and people leadership for electrical engineering work serving industrial, oil & gas, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and related Energy & Utilities projects. You will lead the Electrical Energy & Utilities team and provide direction for project delivery, staff development, technical quality, and client service across multiple simultaneous projects. You will assume multi-project responsibilities for full electrical design, including power distribution, telecommunications, controls, renewable energy systems, and medium-voltage system design for industrial and oil & gas markets. You will serve as a senior technical resource from project planning through design, construction, startup, and closeout, helping teams deliver practical, high-quality solutions for technically complex facilities. You will develop and oversee engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and related technical deliverables, while helping implement project execution plans, project controls, and QA/QC processes. You will guide project approach, staffing, technical review, and production execution to support scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives. You will direct and support electrical calculations, equipment selections, power systems analyses, and studies such as short circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and related evaluations as required by project needs. You will coordinate closely with other disciplines, clients, contractors, utilities, and equipment vendors to deliver integrated solutions and maintain strong project communication. You will build, maintain, and grow client relationships, while supporting business development, proposal development, project scoping, and technical approach development. You will mentor, supervise, and develop engineers, designers, and drafters, including coaching, performance support, delegation, and technical growth. You will support construction-phase services including submittal review, responses to contractor questions, field observations, commissioning support, and resolution of technical issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Typically, 12-15+ years of experience in technically complex electrical system design.
  • 5+ years of staff management experience.
  • Broad design experience including industrial power distribution, controls, hazardous classified areas, and medium-voltage systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead electrical design teams and coordinate multi-discipline project delivery.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, while managing multiple priorities and simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to solve complex power engineering problems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to direct the use of and perform QC review in SKM Power Tools, ETAP, and EasyPower.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards associated with electrical power, including the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and applicable IEEE and NFPA standards.
  • Ability to pass background checks and willingness to comply with client-specific site access requirements, including immunization, that industrial clients may require.
  • Ability to complete occasional travel to client sites in support of projects

Nice To Haves

  • NCEES Record holder preferred.
  • Knowledge of Navisworks software preferred.
  • Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD.
