About The Position

As a Manufacturing Technical Shift Leader, you will have supervisory responsibility for a medium/large group of technical employees in the implementation and execution of the established business process for an area in maintenance operations. In this role, you will foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS, focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Focus on improving and maintaining standalone throughput (SAT), mean time to repair (MTTR), and mean cycles between failure (MCBF) targets. You must also possess the ability to deal with complex problems while managing a group of technical leaders across multiple shifts. This role is categorized as onsite, meaning the successful candidate is expected to report to Arlington on a full-time basis. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of experience in a people leader role
  • Ability to work over-time, weekends, holidays, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity Global Manufacturing System Knowledge
  • Prior Body Shop Manufacturing or Maintenance assignment & working relationship with UAW leadership

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of safety standards, communicate department goals, and leverage resources to solve issues.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management, and understand to consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union.
  • Implement and follow systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment.
  • Participate in the selection of new employees and trains, develops, and evaluates salaried and hourly employees, and the development of highly effective teams.
  • Leads Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across multiple departments and serves as lead resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
  • Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements.
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety, and housekeeping.
  • Motivates, trains, and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training according to flexibility charts).
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
  • Project Management, prioritizing weekend work plans with limited windows of opportunity.
  • Lead throughput improvement processes.
  • Coach, teach, counsel, and mentor Maintenance Leads, Control Engineers, and Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
