About The Position

Under general supervision of department leadership, the Shift Leader, Environmental Services is responsible for keeping the facility clean and sanitary to provide a healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role assists staff with cleaning tasks across all areas and exercises independent judgment and discretion while performing assigned duties. This is a full-time, 80-hours-per-pay-period position on the day shift at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, a 444-bed hospital and part of Covenant Health.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in healthcare housekeeping.
No minimum education is specified; candidates may demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities through a combination of formal education and/or prior work experience, typically equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to candidates with a high school diploma or GED.
No licensure requirement.

Responsibilities

Participate in performance appraisals of staff on the applicable shift.
Participate in the hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the department leader.
Prepare documentation for possible disciplinary actions and recommend such action to the department leader.
Recommend commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate recognition for outstanding employee performance on the applicable shift.
Make work assignments and direct work activities; coordinate staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
Perform general cleaning of patient rooms and non-patient areas.
Safely use and mix chemicals.
Maintain carts and closets and keep them stocked with supplies.
Handle clean and soiled linens.
Follow infectious waste procedures.
Perform quality checks.
Open work areas as necessary.
Train and orient new employees.
Assist in preparing work schedules.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete required annual education assignments; work toward goals and objectives; and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
