About The Position

The APSI Shift Lead is a position within the security and protective service field. This role is responsible for overseeing staff who provide guard services, similar to Security Guard II and Alarm Monitor roles. The primary focus is ensuring that security personnel deliver client services in accordance with contract requirements, post orders, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and applicable laws. Shift Leads must maintain situational awareness, make independent decisions, and take autonomous actions consistent with established protocols. Duties may involve working in challenging conditions for extended periods, including inclement weather, and performing tasks such as walking, standing, searching, surveillance, or sitting. Responsibilities include scheduling officers, enforcing post orders and facility rules, reviewing and submitting reports, and managing the disciplinary process for subordinate officers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of security/civilian law enforcement experience OR an equivalent position with the United States Armed Forces (military).
  • Must submit to and successfully complete pre-placement screening and evaluation, which includes submission to a criminal background check, financial institutions/credit bureau check, and disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background screen, drug test and physical exam.
  • State or Territory Security Guard license required or ability to obtain within hiring period.
  • Must be fluent in speaking and writing in English.
  • Effective English language verbal and writing skills are required.
  • Leadership skills are necessary to motivate high performance and teamwork.
  • Must be able to meet medical/physical fitness requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for customer and team relations.
  • Shift Lead must maintain accurate knowledge of the most current orders, regulations, procedures, policies, and response plans.
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions including keyboard entry, and work processing are essential.
  • Must be able to meet physical fitness requirements of the position.
  • Access to government facilities/installations specific to this position is a mandatory requirement to fulfill the minimum qualifications for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 years or more Experience in performing and functioning as a Guard II / Security Officer in a civilian/military law enforcement is preferred.
  • Two years technical or university education is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience as an Armed Guard II /Security Officer working on a government contract as a contractor employee is preferred.
  • Combination of experience will be considered on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of staff who provide guard services described in the job descriptions for Security Guard II, and Alarm Monitor where applicable.
  • Ensuring that security personnel perform client services in accordance with contract requirements, post orders, policies and procedures, rules and regulations, as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Maintaining situational awareness and making independent decisions and/or taking actions autonomously and consistent with established post orders, facility rules, guidelines, protocols and reporting structure.
  • Scheduling Officers on assigned posts.
  • Enforcing post orders, facility rules, guidelines and protocols.
  • Review and submit reports.
  • Managing the disciplinary process of subordinate Officers and recommend further action.
  • Ensuring the accomplishment of requirements in the contract Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Ensuring compliance with orders, policies, and procedures, with emphasis on safe conduct of operations.
  • Completing required training to ensure job proficiency in all areas according to SOW.
  • Oversight and/or participation in the enforcement of system and personnel identification; package and vehicle inspections.
  • Identify, correct, secure, or arrange to correct security violations and initiate necessary reports.
  • Receiving, issuing and accounting for keys, locks, and access control passes.
  • Monitoring fire/chemical agent/intrusion detection systems and other facility protection devices/alarms.
  • Maintaining work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Operating strictly within the guidelines established for the position at the assigned site.
  • Approving deviations from accepted protocols in advance or immediately reporting them after an incident.
  • Consistently exercising discretion and judgment in performance.
  • Maintaining a complete understanding and necessary ability in all essential duties and responsibilities detailed in the Guard II and Alarm Monitor (where applicable) job descriptions.
  • Appropriately addressing/supervising fire alarms, burglary alarms, requests for assistance and criminal acts.
  • Overseeing personnel in the security of government property, detaining personnel using the mantrap when needed, and reporting anyone involved with unauthorized property/equipment removal.
  • Reviewing/approving activity logs and administrative documents as required by contract.
  • Serving as shift POC to LE; Contacting, assisting, and cooperating with local, state or federal law enforcement; locating, retaining and protecting necessary evidence; testifying as necessary in judicial and administrative proceedings.
  • Reviewing the time entry system of staff to ensure timely updating of logs, reports and computerized systems.
  • Supervising and monitoring the use, issue, training, and possession of assigned equipment.
  • Conducting audits and ensuring that personnel complete and log regular patrols and inspections of buildings, grounds and facilities.
  • Knowing and understanding specific requirements including, but not limited to: Contract requirements, post orders, policies and procedure, rules and regulations, as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations; Site or Agency Specific manuals.
  • Mentoring and training Guards on facility procedures, safety procedures and proper operational protocols.
  • Monitoring staff that monitor traffic and grant or deny access to areas during non-working hours to authorized personnel.
  • Ensuring follow-up on reports about facility equipment and utility systems deficiencies and requesting repairs.
  • Directing, participating, assisting or overseeing officers to perform random surveillance of fence line for breaches and the detection of unauthorized removal of government property, illegal or inappropriate activity.
  • Directing, participating, assisting or overseeing officers to perform random surveillance of building or the detection of unauthorized or inappropriate activity.
  • Providing additional Shift Lead security support of scheduled events that may occur during or after duty hours or for unscheduled emergencies.
