About The Position

The Penny Ice Creamery is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join their leadership teams at their Palo Alto and Los Altos shops. The Penny Ice Creamery is unique for making ice cream completely from scratch, in-house, using local and organic ingredients, offering a variety of unique and classic flavors. As a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for creating an excellent customer experience by scooping ice cream, making special items like sundaes and milkshakes, and preparing high-quality coffee and tea drinks. You will also be trained on opening and closing the shop and making fresh sugar cones and marshmallow fluff from scratch. In addition to providing exceptional service, you will act as a leader and role model for the staff, maintaining the flow of business, the presentation of the shop, and upholding high standards of service, product quality, and hospitality.

Requirements

Skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, prioritization, and leadership.
Ability to work autonomously, and as a team player and leader.
Ability to effectively communicate and work in a fast-paced environment.
Skilled in attention to detail and follow-through.
Available to work on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Available to work at least 20 hours a week on a reliable basis.
Must be available to work through Summer 2026 (June ~ September).

Nice To Haves

Preference will be given to individuals with experience in leadership, but we are willing to train the right person.

Responsibilities

Create an excellent customer experience by scooping ice cream and making special items like ice cream sundaes and milkshakes.
Get barista-trained and make high quality coffee and tea drinks.
Get trained on opening and closing the shop.
Become an expert in making fresh sugar cones and marshmallow fluff from scratch.
Act as a leader and role model for the staff.
Maintain the flow of business and the presentation of the shop during your shift.
Uphold high standards of service, product quality, and hospitality.
