About The Position

The Lab Technician will test packaging line samples using simple chemical and physical tests and calculations to obtain test results. They will record results, determine if they are within specification limits, and contact appropriate personnel if product is out of grade, rejecting such products. The role involves chemical and physical testing of product at specified intervals and recording these results on lab sheets. Specific tests include magnet testing, metal detection calibration, and micro sampling, all performed multiple times per shift on each manufacturing line. Balance calibration is also required. The technician is responsible for segregating non-conforming and conforming product.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions.
  • Not allergic to dust or chemicals.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Occasionally required to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to keep accurate and legible records.
  • Must be able to communicate in fluent English.
  • Ability to accurately use weights and measures.
  • Must be available for rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Demonstrate good attendance.
  • Able to work independently with little or no supervision after training.
  • Must demonstrate tests of competency in performing testing procedures and other skills.
  • Only qualified to perform those testing procedures in which they have been formally trained.

  • Chemistry or lab background and/or experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Test packaging line samples using simple chemical tests and physical tests and calculations.
  • Record results of testing and determine whether results are within specification limits.
  • Contact appropriate personnel if product is out of grade and reject out of grade products.
  • Perform chemical and physical testing of product at specified intervals and record results.
  • Complete magnet testing 4 times per 8-hour shift from each manufacturing line.
  • Perform metal detection calibration twice per 8-hour shift on each manufacturing line.
  • Take micro samples twice per 8-hour shift from each manufacturing line.
  • Calibrate balance every time the scale is moved or at a minimum of once per week.
  • Segregate non-conforming and conforming product.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
