About The Position

McCormick is seeking a Lab Technician for their Hunt Valley Plant on the 2nd Shift (1:30p-10p, Mon-Fri). This role is part of a self-directed, High-Performance team responsible for maintaining production flow, meeting performance goals, ensuring a safe and clean work environment, and upholding high quality standards for customers.

Requirements

  • Acceptable attendance required.
  • Meets standards in overall performance rating in most recent performance review.
  • Up to date on all site Quality and Safety compliance requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in reading, writing and math required.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization required.
  • One to two years demonstrated quality experience in a manufacturing environment, conducting inspections on the raw materials and packaging required.
  • Proven attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to business needs including flexibility with shift and workday assignments to support business need.
  • Including ability to work overtime/weekends required.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills required.
  • Ability to perform sensory testing, which will include appearance and taste comparisons against control samples.
  • Must be able to work safely, recognize concerns, and address the concerns to prevent accidents.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) & the Datamyte system (SPC-based systems) preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications required.
  • SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Samples raw ingredients and packaging materials as they enter the plant and within the facility, including visual inspection and physical taste testing.
  • Examines and tests samples, accurately recording results both on paper and in the computer.
  • Performs initial troubleshooting for operational issues such as foreign material findings, supplier issues, and weight issues.
  • Issues Quality Notifications for materials that are out of specification.
  • Conducts testing according to the environmental monitoring program.
  • Provides troubleshooting support to production departments by investigating issues that affect product quality or manufacturing efficiency and recommending potential solutions.
  • Communicates problems and test results to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs daily line audits for finished products.
  • Participates in cross-functional Production/Maintenance/Materials Management team meetings.
  • Proactively participates in weekly Problem-Solving events or optimization.
  • Supports the MAC (Manufacturing Analysis and Costing) process as directed by Team Manager/QA Crew Leader/MAC Coordinator.
  • Overtime on short notice and weekend work is required.
  • Requires flexibility with shift and workday assignments to support business needs and reduce overtime.
